Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I have had this design floating in my head for a number of years. In fact, I have knit it multiple times in my head; but, when I actually knit it using Hole In The Wool yarn, it was a lot more fun. The colors are beautiful, the yarn is soft, and the texture when worked up is sharp.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I love the interruption of this lace pattern with a little seed stitch. I don’t know why it speaks to me, but it does. I also like the subtle color change for the border.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I called this shawl Mood Changer, because every time I worked on it, it really did change my mood. I had so much fun just living in the moment and changing stitches when I wanted, and creating new patterns. Either I was changing colors, or changing patterns, so I never got tired of working on this design.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
First, I love the name of this yarn company, “Hole In The Wool.” Whew! Now that I got that out of the way, these two colors together, make such a bright and breezy duo.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I love the gradient yarns that come out of Greenwood Fiberworks. They fire my imagination and get me knitting at full speed just to see the next color. Every time a new colorway comes out, all my work stops and my mind goes crazy and I HAVE TO design and knit something new.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I really had a lot of fun with this design. I took apart a stitch, and then put it back together again, in the shawl, piece by piece. I really like the way everything lines up. You get a little lace and then a little texture.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I was simply trying to have a stress-free day, and went into a local gallery and saw an amazing glass plate.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This is a pretty easy shawl to work up. It is a top down in my favorite shape, “crescent.”
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I just can’t seem to get enough leaves in my life. I thought maybe if I filled a whole crescent shaped shawl with leaves, then I would get them out of my system. Whoops, I just thought of another design with leaves. Oh well, I tried.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I’ve wanted to use this tulip pattern in a design for ages. I found the tulip pattern in a knitting book entitled, “The Encyclopedia of Knitting” by Lesley Stanfield and Melody Griffiths.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
It is strange how patterns pop into your head when you see a yarn or a color way. That is what happened in this instance. There was no struggling, all the numbers came together easily; and, in the designing process, I only ripped out once, and that was just to change the colors around. (I usually rip out things, MULTIPLE times.)
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
I fell in love with this stitch pattern. After first knitting a sample, I wanted to put it in everything. The pattern is worked on every row, but that is not a problem when working in the round. Plus you get a sharper image of the pattern when you have increases and decreases on almost every row.
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
I love this yarn. It’s 20% Yak! So soft and silky. AND since yellow is my favorite color, and this color, in particular, has such depth; I just had to create my, “Little Slice of Sunshine.”
Knitting: Scarf
A lace scarf can add just the right uniqueness to an outfit. This pattern contains four different lace patterns that go together seamlessly. The patterns are easy to memorize and to keep track of and yet are different enough to keep you interested.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This design took me so long to finish. Not because I had trouble figuring things out; and, it was very easy to knit. No, it was because this yarn is so soft, I wanted to enjoy every stitch; so, I knit it very slowly. I love a nice crescent shape; and, short rows can put the perfect shape in a shawl. Starting out with the border means you get th...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Put down all those adult coloring books and start coloring with your yarn. I call this, “Coloring Outside of the Lines,” because it looks like I grabbed any color I wanted and colored outside every line. The black lines in the top part of the shawl are slipped stitches; so, there is no fancy color work; and, on the lower half of the shawl the b...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
100% Baby Alpaca, yarn is so soft I just couldn’t resist. In my mind I was saying, “Oh, Baby, Baby.”
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
It isn’t often I start a design that I don’t want to end. My patience is such that I want the design finished and the knitting done so I can move on to the next design running around in my head. The possibilities of this design kept me wishing I had more and more yarn. I ran out of yarn before I ran out of ideas. I found a stitch that I couldn’...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves, Headband
These fingerless gloves came together quickly. I knew I wanted to use a lace leaves on the back and on the thumb. I needed to pick a design that would fit in both places. Wouldn’t you know one of my favorite leaf designs worked.
Knitting: Scarf
When I saw Marianated Yarns (gradient yarns), I thought, how fun would it be to make a ruffle that simply goes from light to dark in one color. I added a little lace on the edge so the ruffle wouldn’t curl, then I added some short rows to make the ruffle, and a simple slip stitch in the middle to give it some stability. I love the way the scarf...
Knitting: Scarf, Headband
I love this slip stitch pattern. I’ve had it in my head for a very long time and wanted to always use it in a design, or two. It looks complicated but is quite easy. The two unusual things about the pattern is that you only slip the stitches on the wrong side of the scarf, or every other row on the headband. The pattern contains a simple twist ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I’ve always wanted to play around with color in a simple slip stitch pattern.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The trend these days seems to be gradient colors. When I came across these six beautiful, gray colors from Marianated Yarns, I fell in love.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This pattern came to me as soon as I saw these beautiful gradient yarns. I knew all I had to do was make a few adjustments on my favorite leaf pattern and then knit it up. I also knew I wanted to use every bit of yarn there was; so, I arranged the leaf pattern so that I would have to change colors half way through the pattern. It feels good to ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I fell in love with the colors. I knew I wanted to design a shawl that was simple and allowed the colors to speak louder than the design. In this case the yarn chose me.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I love short rows. They are so versatile. In this case I added them to the end of the row. I thought they looked like feathers. I also thought it would be nice for baby to learn colors from this blanket. Pick primary colors and use it as a teaching aid as baby grows. This is an easy pattern and I had fun designing and knitting it.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I wanted to make a simple baby blanket, using stockinette for the middle and then a fancy lace edging. I found an old, Danish doily pattern that was very interesting. It had the simplicity I wanted, it had a texture change and I could tell that after blocking it would have a nice scalloped edge. After charting and making changes to the stitch p...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
My Mother recently died. I was grieving. I stopped knitting. I wouldn’t have thought there would be anything that would make me stop knitting. This surprised me, but I just let it be. My friends, after a while, bought me a gorgeous skein of yarn to remind me I wasn’t alone and to inspire me. I stared at the yarn for a few days; and then wound i...
Knitting: Purse / Handbag
A bag I found online inspired me. I wanted it, but I couldn’t find a pattern that came close to it. So, of course, I said, “I can make that!” and another purse design was born. I named it Dragon Fly Wings, because the stitch pattern looks like dragonflies in flight.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
I saw all kinds of lovely fabric Christmas tree skirts while shopping, and thought, “I can do that”. I took my inspiration from a 1897 doily. There were a few stops and starts trying to figure out, and rewrite the beginning of the pattern. Then I was on my own for the ending. It was a pretty fast knit though, since I used a US #10.5 needle and ...
Knitting: Brooch
I design a “Noel” decoration for the door a very long time ago and the decoration included some Holly and Berries. It just ran through my head the other day that those Holly and Berries would make a cute pin. A very, very quick knit.
Knitting: Earwarmers
“It’s getting pretty cold here,” my daughter said. Dropping a hint that the ear warmer I was suppose to knit for her was needed – now! I quickly figured out a design and knit it. It only took one day. One day and it was off my needles and in the mail the next day. Good thing I didn’t promised her a sweater.
Knitting: Scarf
Naturally, I wanted to design a matching scarf to go with the Garden Trellis Tam and Fingerless Gloves. Since I already knew how I wanted to end the design, I spit my skein in half, worked a provisional cast on, and started in the middle of the scarf. After finish one half, all I had to do was put the live stitches from the provisional cast on ...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
After creating my Garden Trellis Tam, of course, I had to make matching fingerless gloves. After finishing a garden trellis square, and laying it across my hand, I new exactly how I was going to construct my fingerless gloves. All I had to do was close the beginning and ending of the square, leaving an opening for the thumb; and, pick up stitch...
Knitting: Beret, Tam
I got my inspiration for this tam, from Franklin Habit’s Templeton Square in the Winter 2012 issue of Knitty. He got his inspiration from the Weldon’s Practical Knitter (4th Series). Inspiration can come from anywhere and everywhere. I thought this pattern looked like leaves caught in a garden trellis; so, I worked the pattern a couple times, a...
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I thought it would be fun to create a teddy bear using different kinds of stitches. The idea swirled around in my head for months. I worked on it and ripped it out, I worked on it and ripped it out. Finally, it all came together. Despite all the ripping out, I never got frustrated. I just wanted Baby’s first teddy bear to be perfect. It was fun...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Marian of Marianated Yarns just mentioned a few words, and talked about her new colors and it got me inspired. Her yarn colors are just beautiful. Sometimes you work a shawl and try to match the color of the yarn to the theme of the pattern. Any color will work with this design. Choose green and it looks like leaves, red and it is a giant rose,...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
My pattern inspiration is from an old counterpane square from the book “Knitting Counterpanes” by Mary Walker Phillips. Every time I look through that book, I get inspired. When I realized the square had a self-repeating stitch pattern in it, all kinds of projects went through my head, but designing a shawl with the stitch pattern was the proje...
Knitting: Bag - Other
I’m not apologizing for it, but I am no longer in denial. I love knitting bags. Since they are getting pretty expensive, I decided I could easily make my own. I knew I wanted to felt it, because with the fabric being so dense, it makes a really sturdy bag. Looking through my stash of yarn, I found some Cascade 220 colors that would work well to...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The design is worked with two colors instead of one (though you could do it all in one color). You work two rows of one color, then two rows of your second colors. When the body of the shawl is finished, you work the first border in your lighter color, and the last border in the darker color. The result is a nice, soft blending of colors.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I don’t know what it is about shawls, but I love designing them. I have so many running around in my head. This one has a nice drape, is easy, and uses a lovely leaf border at the end.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
There are so many different sock yarns, with so many different color combinations, and so many different stripe variations. I wanted to go back to the simple solid color and make the pattern stand out and be heard. I do like the wild crazy colors out there, but I also like a nice sophisticated sock.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I don’t know how I have come to design so many baby blankets. I have never been interested in the one-stitch-pattern type baby blankets. I always wanted to knit something with interest, or something that had a cute element to it. I think with this blanket I got both.
Knitting: Scarf
I was given a skein of the new Debbie Bliss Lace Rialto from a local yarn store (Unraveled Sheep - they are the best), and was told I could knit whatever I wanted; and, I have always wanted to design a lace scarf that is reversible, and has a simple motif that includes faggoting. This design is knit all in one piece with a simple crochet edging...
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
We can’t knit ruby slippers like Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz had, but we can certainly show of some flashy ruby socks. You might have to continually lift your pant leg to show off these sparklers. I think you might need to knit a pair in every color.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I design this shawl when I started thinking about what I thought “Auntie Em” of the Wizard of Oz would wear. I decided to use chunky yarn thinking how comfortable it would look and feel on my shoulders. However, after using the chunky yarn, I then preceded to work up the shawl in dk weight yarn and in lace weight yarn. The stitch pattern is suc...
Knitting: Convertible Gloves
I wanted to design a simple, practical, fingerless glove, and that fit my hand snuggly. But then…I needed to shake snow off of my drooping trees and my fingerless gloves needed to be a mittens. So I add a little cap to my fingerless gloves so now I’m ready for any circumstance. You can easily knit the glove with or without the cap because the c...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Ever since I saw this pattern (a single leaf being created out of a single stitch), I have not been able to get it out of my head. I love the simplicity of the design, the way the leaves fit together, and the way it makes the ribbing curve in and out. It also hugs your head nicely.
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
I love the look, the feel, and the romance of Orenburg Shawls. I also like the fact that the shawls are all worked in Garter. They are completely reversible. The Honeycomb is by far my favorite Orenburg shawl pattern and I knew I had to incorporate it in a simple design to show off the unique structure of this stitch. The pattern may keep you o...
Knitting: Beret, Tam
I wanted to create a pattern, where the cables created a star at the top of the hat. It was a figure-it-out-as-you-go design. So, I watched it being born as I was knitting.
Knitting: Scarf
I wanted to design a lacey scarf, with a single motif, and I wanted to use Garter stitch as the background stitch. I used extra big needles so that it would knit up quickly. This would be a nice quick gift.
Knitting: Headband
Headbands are getting more and more popular, and what a great gift idea. You will be using your talent and personal time to make your friends a homemade gift that is quick and easy. Make a different color headband for each friend.
Knitting: Brimmed Hat
This is a fresh look for all those old doily patterns we love to knit. A few extra stitches here and there and a few more stitch patterns and you have a great summer hat.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This was one of those designs that I could see so clearly in my head. It took very little to make it all come together. First I had to search for different kinds of knitted hearts (there are quite a variety of knitted hearts out there), and then I just had to do a little math to see which ones would fit together the best. This looks exactly lik...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Verla (owner of Unraveled Sheep in Sandy, Utah) and I are at it again. She got wonderful new yarns in and, of course, we had to design a 1-skein project for the yarn. We started early Thursday morning and did all the ripping out and starting over up until 5:00 p.m. By 5:00 we knew that at least half of the shawl would work. I took it home and a...
Knitting: Cardigan
Verla, the owner of Unraveled Sheep in Sandy, Utah always has great ideas. She came up with this idea for a baby sweater, and offered the idea to me. I threw in a few design elements myself and ended up with a one-piece baby sweater. Easily knit in 2 days.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Shawna Gribskov named this shawl. Thank you so much for the great name. The shawl has a textured design with an easy lace edging. I added wooden beads on the bind off edge to catch the eye. It only takes one skein, is a weekend project, and is made from recycled jeans yarn. The yarn is soft, cozy and a great knit. The added twist is that the sh...
Knitting: Accessories - Other
Put a little hat on your baby’s wee wee when you are changing his diaper. If he squirts…it is absorbed by the cotton of the hat. Then just throw it in the washer and dryer and nothing else gets squirted!!!! This is a great baby shower gift.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
Three little party hats for your party drinks. Make them for Birthday Parties. Or, make silver or gold ones for a New Years Eve Party. Try baby colors for a Baby Shower. They are fun, easy and quick.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I found this yarn and fell in love with the color wave. I decided to show off the variation in two ways: In long stripes across the body using a textured pattern; and, in short stripes downward, with a short row border. Don’t let the short rows scare you, they are the simplest kind of short rows – no wraps just turn your work. At first glance, ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
When designing this wrap, I knew I wanted to use a large lace pattern with a little bit of contrasting yarn. I fell in love with this stitch pattern, and I got so caught up in the ebb and flow of the pattern that I couldn’t stop knitting. I laid it all out for blocking and sent a picture to my sister. After looking at the picture my sister said...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I had some red yarn, Valentines Day was coming up, and I was looking through a knitting book. I saw the Channel Island Cast-On, and thought it would look so cute on a little hat. The design came together fast, and knit up just as quick. I think this hat would look cute on any little Valentine head.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
Here I go again. I know, I know I have done a lot of Fair Isle tam. I have no excuse. I just love them. Now I’m working with worsted weight yarn, and the tams knit up very quickly. So quickly, I’m already thinking of my next design before I finish my current one. I’ll slow down a little. Maybe.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
As I have often said, I love Fair Isle. I worked this design in just two colors, because I love the high contrast between the colors that makes the design stand out. It’s easy to change from my color selection to your favorite colors; and make the hat your own.
Knitting: Scarf
I love a scarf that puts a smile on someone’s face. The more little details I add the bigger the smile. I started with Pengy’s feet, knitting them side-to-side, and then picked up for his belly. His body is very easy with simple increases and decreasing. Add his hat and you are well on your way. Knitting his beak, tummy and holly leaves are det...
Knitting: Decorative - Other
Hi, my name is Harvey. I have a new best friend. His name is Tim. I’m giving thanks at Thanksgiving for my new friend, and encouraging everyone to eat Chicken instead of….you know. I don’t want to say too much in front of my friend because I don’t want him running away.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
I absolutely love Fair Isle. In order to get more people to give it a try, I designed a tam with worsted weight yarn. Also by using a variegated yarn, you just need two colors for the whole hat. Make a Fair Isle tam that is easy, but that looks complicated. Show it off to your family and friends.
Knitting: Cowl
ONE SKEIN of Malabrigo! This is not your ordinary scarf. This is a nice cozy neck warmer. You don’t have to pull it over your head and mess up your hair. Just button it up. The wind, snow and cold can’t find it’s way in because it tucks in under your coat. It is a good pattern to learn right side and wrong side because you have to switch sides ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The ripple effect of the yarn colors, and the shark tooth edging reminded me of the tide going in and out at the ocean’s edge. This shawl is a simple stockinette at the top to show off the color waves, the lace is added second in a complimentary color. The edging is worked last, knitting it together with the last row of the shawl.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
This design began when I started thinking about a baby blanket surrounded by bunnies. Bunnies that had soft tails. While perfecting my bunnies, I came across this easy lace stitch pattern called “Cloverleaf Eyelet Pattern” (from Barbara Walkers, A Treasury of Knitting Patterns). It instantly came together. My bunnies will be in the clover.
Knitting: Poncho
I’m not a poncho person, but I thought I would design one anyway, since it got stuck in my head. I designed a poncho that would sit low on my neck, had a little lace character and a simple change of color.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
This fingerless mitten worked in a K2/P2 ribbing gives your hands nice warm hugs. The stitch increases and decreases in all the right places make it an easy fit for any size hand. The leaf motif increasing the stitch count in just the right places.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat is the easiest form of Fair Isle you can do. Two colors and no stranding or catching the yarn in the back. Just let the floats go and they will add extra insulation for your head. It is an easy pattern if you can count to 3. Great for Christmas gifts. The first hat was knit with two shades of Berroco Metallic Sox and the second hat was...
Knitting: Scarf
I love Fair Isle so much I try to incorporate it in everything. I got this idea to work the ends of the scarf in the round, so I could do Fair Isle, and the rest of the scarf flat in a textured stitch. I even built in fringe holes. It worked! Since most of the scarf is worked flat, it is not too heavy. Since it was a success, of course, I have ...
Knitting: Shrug / Bolero
I was asked to design a shrug for a wedding dress; and, of course, thought that I needed to incorporate hearts into the design. The hearts are at the center back with a lace ribbing attached. The border around the shrug can be worked in any number of rows. The number of rows will change the look from a border just below the underarms to somethi...
Knitting: Decorative - Other
It seems I am always waiting for Christmas, so that I can put out all of my decorations. My favorite time of the year. I created Harvey The Christmas Mouse last year, so this year I just had to create a Santa to go with him. With each new piece knit, you see him come to life. After adding his eyes they start to sparkle, but he finally says I’m ...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I wanted a shawl that didn’t use lace yarn, and was easy and fast to knit up, but yet it had to keep my interest until it was done. My Summer Fling uses garter and stockinette stitches throughout, and the color change keeps you interested. The shawl ends with an easy lace border. The shawl is 56” across the back and 26” deep.
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
My friend Kathy talked me into designing this pattern. She was inspired by a crochet version of a single sleeve scarf by Kim Miller. I used Silky Wool that has a nice drape. A lace stitch pattern ribbing fits any arm nicely and keeps you cool for those summer months. It looks elegant and funky all at the same time.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
I am just crazy about Fair Isle. It seems the quickest way to get my fix is to design another Fair Isle tam. With this design, I stepped out of the traditional box, and designed a maze. See if you can knit your way out of this one.
Knitting: Baby Blanket
I fell in love with the Grandma’s Edging, and have now incorporated it into 3 designs of mine. A sampler scarf, a baby sweater, and now this baby blanket. This is an easy pattern, and you will find that you have memorized the pattern in no time. The baby blanket is constructed from the center out and measures 36 x 36 unblocked. It uses a unique...
Knitting: Scarf
If mittens are forgotten, this scarf has built in pockets to keep any child’s hands warm. Simple cables are used to form the body and ears of this cute little bunny, and an easy knit/purl stitch pattern is used for both the scarf and the hat. This bunny will help keep anyone warm.
Knitting: Purse / Handbag
This bag is worked from the top down. The casings are worked first, and then joined for knitting in the round. I had so much fun knitting this design with the color changes and the alternating pattern; it made me want to design another, and another, and another. I should be in therapy.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
Hi, I’m Harvey. You probably remember me from Christmas last year. I came with my own stocking and my bedtime reading book “A Night Before Christmas”, you know, where it mentions me, “not a creature was stirring…” I asked my mom to dress me up for Halloween. I wanted to be a witch. Did you guess? My Mom made me the cape and pail for my candy. S...
Knitting: Dress
This party dress is knit from the top down, and the hearts are added upside down, but right side up and it all comes together.
Knitting: Scarf
Knit this easy Frosty scarf to go with your Santa scarf pattern. All you have is increases and decreases. You don’t have to worry about purling, because it is all knit. You don’t have to worry about your scarf curling because the garter stitch will keep it nice and flat. Make it long or short for adult or child, and watch the smiles.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Again, I had so much fun designing these hats. (I guess I just have fun designing.) I have had them in my head for quite a while, and they finally got out and got on paper. They knit up pretty fast, 2 days at the most, because after you work in the design, it is just straight knitting until the decreases.
Knitting: Scarf
What a great way to start your Christmas gift knitting. It’s quick, because you can’t wait to finish; and, by putting the face on early, Santa will make you laugh while you are knitting him. He will be hard to keep a secret.
Knitting: Coat / Jacket
It has been a while since I designed a baby sweater. I wondered if I was ever going to have another idea for a baby sweater. Then, I fell in love with the lace edging called “Grandma’s Edging,” (of course, found in my favorite book, Barbara Walker’s, “A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns”) and then, a local yarn store, got in the Baby Bunny y...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves, Beret, Tam
I designed this pattern with I got the fingerless gloves and lacy tam bug. There may be no cure for me. By this time, I figured out that most fingerless gloves feel nicer on your hand if you do a rib pattern across the palm. They fit more sizes of hands. I love this right twist pattern, I just changed it a little and did it over three stitches,...
Knitting: Scarf
I had a lot of fun designing this lace sampler, and even more fun knitting it. I realize I always say that, but it’s the truth. I wrote the pattern in chart form, so it would be easier to understand the transitions from square to square.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Combining a mohair yarn with another yarn invariably makes it luxuriously soft. I learned this technique from Susan Newhall (suebell) when working her “Everylittlelastbit of Kidsilk Haze Shawl.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
I Love Fair Isle, and loving Fair Isle like I do I couldn’t keep designing Beanies and Tams, so I designed these Fair Isle fingerless gloves. I made them extra long so I could keep the Fair Isle Fun going as long as I could. I knit them using a US #4 12”-circular changing to double points for the thumb; but you could use double points throughout.
Knitting: Scarf
No complicated stitches, just simple knits and purls. Have fun discovering new textures that may inspire you to knit a whole scarf in one pattern, or even a whole sweater. The directions are for both scarves. A multi-colored scarf, and a single-colored scarf. Have fun arranging the blocks in different order, and discovering new stitch patterns.
Knitting: Animal Toy
Since I made a bear all in one piece (Fuzzy Wuzzy), I thought I should make a bunny all in one piece. With Fun Funny Bunny there is no sewing on of legs and arms, she is knit all in one piece. I stuffed her as I knit her and saw her come to life in my hands. I added a little blush to her ears and cheeks and she was ready for a big hug. I also t...
Knitting: Animal Toy
Before my knitting addiction, I was hooked on sewing Teddy Bears. In trying to combine my two loves, I came up with Fuzzy Wuzzy. I wanted him to be knit in one piece without having to sew on arms, legs and head. I had fun with the increases and decreases, and gave Fuzzy a little bit of a pot belly and a little bit of a behind. I hope you enjoy ...
Knitting: Scarf
I designed this scarf because I wanted to use the decorative lattice stitch. I love this stitch. It looks hard but is really very easy. Of course, I had to add beads. You can add beads to just the ends, like I did; or, add beads for the entire length of the scarf. I had so much fun with this that I designed a beaded clutch using the same stitch.
Knitting: Clutch
I designed this beaded clutch so that I could work with the combination of 4 Ply Soft and Kidsilk Haze with beads. The combination of the yarns makes a very soft knitted fabric and the beads add just the right sparkle. You need to pick beads that will show up against your yarn combination, so pick wisely. You only need about 200 size 6 or size ...
Knitting: Booties
After knitting a lot of beanies I decided to change it up and knit a beret for babies. The decreases make a cool variegated effect on the top of the hat. Of course, your baby needs some sandals to go along with their new hat. Small and elastic, they stay on baby’s feet and are a nice change from socks. I just love Cascade Fixation yarn for baby...
Knitting: Booties
If you have downloaded this pattern prior to February 2, 2009, please download again for a corrected version.
Knitting: Bib, Booties, Beanie, Toque, Washcloth / Dishcloth
I had these baby booties in my head for a long time and thought that the Chenille would make the best soft slipper for babies. Of course, once I made the slippers/booties, I had to add the hat, bib and washcloth. I knit everything in blue in yellow, but for a girl you could easily knit it in pink and white. I have another set in my head, but wh...
Knitting: Drawstring Bag
I’m starting on a beaded knitting craze. This beaded bag is the first in the 2008-2009 series of knitted items. The bag is really easy to knit. You pre-string your beads and the size 6/E beads is large enough to slide easily on the fingering weight yarn. The garter rows add texture and give the bag, along with the beads a nice weight. Get out a...

I had so much fun designing these bottle toppers. I guess I was in the Christmas Spirit. The knitting wasn’t the only thing that was fun. Adding the details, like the feather on the soldiers hat got me excited too. I wanted to keep adding more and more to make them come alive. These characters will help you decorate any bottle…water, soda, or w...
Knitting: Decorative - Other
Okay, I’m going crazy again. I got this idea in my head and now I can’t knit fast enough to get all of the designs out. These little characters are bottle toppers. Water bottles, soda bottles, wine bottles. You can even tie a bow at the bottom and hang them from your tree. One friend said you can use that as finger puppets. It doesn’t matter to...
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
I got hooked on designing fingerless gloves this year. Each pair I made let to another pair. Here are just two of the four designs I did this year creating fingerless gloves. There seems to be a fingerless gloves craze among the younger generation. What a great gift idea.
Knitting: Tote
Looking at a Chinese Take Out Box, I got this idea…..maybe I could knit that. And….if I felted it a little it would keep it’s shape. So the knitted Chinese Take Out Box was born. It is knit in one piece, no seams, and the sides fold in just like on a take out box. I made a couple of versions. One version I used cut down Chinese chop sticks for ...
Knitting: Scarf
This is a nice easy cable scarf. I used a worsted weight yarn with a little variegation. It would make a nice scarf for a man. Any worsted weight yarn will work. A lighter color would show off your cables more.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I always have way too much fun with Fair Isle. When I put the Fair Isle together with the Cascade Fixation yarn I fell in love. The bold colors combined with the Fair Isle design really make a cute baby hat. Once I finished the hat it was clear that it needed something to top it off, so I made a little whale with Fimo clay. Before I baked it I ...
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
Here I am again getting a little carried away. I made one Santa and my mind just kept on going to the next one and then the next one. I had so much fun changing their beards and their hats. I can even see one with a very very long beard and a fair isle hat, but I’m going to stop for now.
Knitting: Animal Toy
“My name is Harvey and I am happy to pose for you. Did you know I am 9 ½“ tall? I’m holding my Christmas stocking and favorite bedtime story. Don’t you love how it ends… ‘Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.’ It even mentions me.”
Knitting: Purse / Handbag
With Valentines Day coming up I thought a little fuzzy heart purse would be cute to knit. I had fun making this. I lined it and put a decorated button for the clasp.
Knitting: Purse / Handbag
I wanted to try a slip stitch pattern and instead of using the customary two different colors, I wanted to try the pattern with a variegated yarn. With this flower slip stitch pattern, it really made the flowers come alive. The purse is an easy construction too.
Knitting: Cardigan
This is my third version of my Baby Sweater Puzzle pattern. It came into my head that I might be able to get a little bit of shadow knitting effect if I used two different colors. It worked. It was so much fun watching it come to life. A cute bow and your baby is dressed for Spring.
Knitting: Coat / Jacket
I designed the Baby Sweater Puzzle and as I was knitting it up, alternate ideas kept popping into my head. Here is the same sweater with a Purl row thrown in. It is also fun to experiment with other yarns.
Knitting: Scarf, Beanie, Toque
I designed this hat using the old method of knitting Entrelac. In the early years of knitting, they had a separate needle for each square of the pattern. Instead of a separate needle, I just used the Clover Jumbo Locking Stitch Markers. The other change I made from traditional Entrelac is to make the hat in the round. The fun was watching the c...
Knitting: Wall Hanging
I did a macrame Santa Claus holder about 30 years ago, and it is getting pretty ratty, so I decided to create a knitted replacement. Santa has three pockets for cards and knits up quickly. Put blush on his nose and cheeks and a bell on his hat and you are ready to go.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I wanted to design a fair isle baby hat, and I was already in love Cascade’s Fixation yarn. This is the yarn that has the elastic in it. This is such a great hat for babies because of the bright colors and the great stretch. After knitting up the fair isle design, sew beads on the ladybugs for their dots and antennae. I even up a ladybug button...
Knitting: Beret, Tam
This is an original design by Mary Triplett. It was take from an old doily pattern and converted into a tam. The pattern comes with matching fingerless mitts.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The first time I dyed yarn with Kool-Aid. After dyeing the yarn I decided I had to design something with it and came up with these two hats. I didn’t like the color of the yarn after the dye set, but after knitting the hats up I changed my mind.
Knitting: Decorative - Other
I had a great time making these small, square, cool characters. Then my brain started running in all kinds of directions and I got a little carried away, but these are the results after a lot of fun.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
I wanted to design a fair isle pattern using two colors, that did not have a high contrast. I wanted a softer look that made you do a double take when you realize the hat is full of flowers. I hope it worked.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I wanted to design a Fair Isle beanie that didn’t have any stranding until the top of the hat. So you can enjoy knitting with two colors without worry. Just change the colors according to the chart and don’t worry about stranding or carrying the yarn over large areas.
Knitting: Wall Hanging
One of my first designs. My inspiration was a needlepoint decoration I had made when I was young. It started to wear out and I thought it would look nice knit. I had fun making it and loved adding the holly leaves and berries.
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
I wanted to knit an old lace counterpane, so I had to figure out a way to incorporate it into something practical. This is a wrap that actually wraps around you and shows off the lace counterpane on the back.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
This is my Snowflake Tam. I fell in love with fair isle one year and ended up designing quite a few hats and beanies.
Knitting: Earwarmers
I designed this for knitters who wanted short a fair isle project that was practical too. Make this ear warmer and show off your knitting skills. Change colors and watch different parts of the design pop.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Still on crazy about Fair Isle, I started designing some beanies for people who didn’t really like the look of a tam. This one is especially fun, but be aware I just had to do more than one color on the top to make the flower just right.
Knitting: Beret, Tam
This was the first design for Fair Isle. I had a great time and learned a lot. This design led to many other Fair Isle designs. I got addicted. Fair Isle is so much fun.
Knitting: Christmas Stocking
This is a Christmas stocking using decorative stitches. This is a fun easy pattern.
Knitting: Scarf
I wanted to design some scarves with beads and came up with these two versions. The first one is done by pre-stringing the beads onto the yarn, and the second is done by using the crochet hook methods. Both methods are fun and both have their benefits. The best part is the finished product just sparkles with beads.
Knitting: Scarf
Wanting to create a scarf for a boy that he would enjoy and not want to take off or leave somewhere. I came up with my “Enchanted Dragon.” The face was fun to create, and to add a little texture he has scales going down his back.
Knitting: Scarf
I created this scarf because I wanted to design something using shadow knitting. It is an easy knit and from different angles you get a view of red or green diamonds down the snake’s back.
Knitting: Scarf
I wanted to try the loop stitch so bad, that I had to come up with a way to show off that stitch. The Shaggy Sheep Scarf was born. It is a great stitch, just add button eyes and she comes to life.
