Note On Gauge: Although gauge is important to aim for there is a lot of flexibility with this particular project and garter stitch is very forgiving. After test knitting it was determined that giving a measurement of one segment was a more helpful guide than trying to attain an exact gauge. The row gauge is what will determine the circumferenc...
Knitting: Cowl
The Hapkerchief pattern is a quick and fun project packed with lots of helpful video tutorials. You will get to try out different techniques, play with color, and feel a connection to Shetland as you knit!
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawl begins with the modern method of Shetland Hap construction, working from the center out. The plain triangular section is worked from the bottom up first, beginning with 1 stitch. Stitches are increased by working a yarn over at the beginning of every row. Stitches are then picked up from the yarn over loops on the edges of the center...
Knitting: Dress
This kid sized pinafore is a recreation of a design my mum thought up back in the early 1970s when she started her knitwear business, The Shetland Trader. There are images of my sister wearing this garment over some knitted trousers and it was one of a number of kids knitwear
Knitting: Cowl
Vaarie is a Shetland word that means change in direction. This fun Fair Isle patterned cowl takes a change in direction with a moebius twist! This particular motif and colors will be seen in a different iteration in my Shetland Trader Book Three collection coming out in Fall 2021! I had to delay the release of that book due to the pandemic so I...

Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The Northdale Hat is a wee offshoot of my Northdale sweater. This is a quick and relatively easy knit being that it is in DK weight yarn and only uses 3 colors. For extra jauntiness stick a pom pom on it!
Knitting: Pullover
Note: The pdf for this pattern is 14 pages long. Mostly this is due to the fact that the sweater begins with a series of short rows that need to be described in detail, row by row. However the difficulty level of this sweater is an intermediate level (it’s really not that hard)!

Ninian is a simple and versatile sweater knit in laceweight yarn and featuring a well known Shetland lace pattern. It is worked from the bottom up in one piece separating at the underarms to work the back and front flat. Stitches are then picked up from the armhole and short rows are used to shape the sleeve cap.
Knitting: Cardigan
This vintage inspired V-neck cardigan is worked from the bottom up and uses the Simultaneous Set-in Sleeve method to work the sleeves and body as one piece. Most of the construction is seamless with only a very small amount of seaming at the top of the sleeve cap and at the underarms.

Knitting: Market bag (slouchy)
This is my take on the old string bag. I know there are some great string bag patterns out there but I felt compelled to come up with my own version with a Shetland touch.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat has a lot of stretch in the brim band. Relaxed it measures 13 inches and fully stretched 16 inches.
Knitting: Dress
This dress is worked from the top down starting with a provisional/open cast on at the shoulders. The back is worked first to the underarms with the two fronts being picked up from the provisional cast on and also worked to the underarms. The back and fronts are then united and worked back and forth to the empire line join. The skirt is worked ...
