I have been on a bit of a cowl designing kick lately so I decided to make a wee collection!

The Shetland Trader Book One is a collection of 10 patterns inspired by the Shetland Islands from designer Gudrun Johnston with photography by Jared Flood.

Note: The pdf for this pattern is 14 pages long. Mostly this is due to the fact that the sweater begins with a series of short rows that need to be described in detail, row by row. However the difficulty level of this sweater is an intermediate level (it’s really not that hard)!

The Tirrick Shawl was originally created for for Valley Yarns as part of their 40th anniversary series. The blue version is knit in Valley Yarns Charlemont yarn (fingering weight) and the red/orange version is knit in Ginger Twist Studio Swanky Lace (lace weight).

This a half sized version of my Hansel Pattern-a traditional Shetland Hap shawl.

This semi-circular shawl is worked from the center top down. Bands of Stockinette and a simple lace pattern are separated out by rows of Vikkel Braids and finished off with a picot bind off. It will be draped over your shoulders with warmth and beauty.

Amélie is worked from the bottom up in one piece uniting the sleeves and body at underarm and working the yoke using a Simultaneous Set In Sleeve construction. You also have the option of working long or short sleeves!

Ninian is a simple and versatile sweater knit in laceweight yarn and featuring a well known Shetland lace pattern. It is worked from the bottom up in one piece separating at the underarms to work the back and front flat. Stitches are then picked up from the armhole and short rows are used to shape the sleeve cap.

This vintage inspired V-neck cardigan is worked from the bottom up and uses the Simultaneous Set-in Sleeve method to work the sleeves and body as one piece. Most of the construction is seamless with only a very small amount of seaming at the top of the sleeve cap and at the underarms.

This is my take on the old string bag. I know there are some great string bag patterns out there but I felt compelled to come up with my own version with a Shetland touch.

This hat has a lot of stretch in the brim band. Relaxed it measures 13 inches and fully stretched 16 inches.
