Knitting: Tote
This clever bag is a prime example of the designer’s fertile imagination. Simple knits and purls worked to a firm gauge become an embossed field of triangles and diamonds.
Knitting: Poncho
This popover—a cross between a poncho and a wrap—celebrates Olga’s fascination with positive and negative space. Knitting the diamonds, and joining them to each other as you go, is so satisfying.
Crochet: Cloche Hat
Crochet a bucket hat! This is the pattern we used for MDK Summer Camp 2022, an online event where over 100 knitters learned to crochet by making a hat together.
Knitting: Throw
A bouncy blanket that celebrates the joy of easy knitting—and the full shade card of MDK’s first-ever yarn, Atlas.
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
A garter stitch short-row heel adds a fun twist to a stocking stitch sock, with a self-striping yarn reminiscent of the colours of later summer on the moor. Moorland Socks is the seventh pattern in Confident Knitting.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
The perfect hat for a chilly afternoon of puffin spotting at Sumburgh Head!
Knitting: Mid-calf Socks
This is the tenth pattern from A Year of Techniques - a collection of 12 patterns to teach you new knitting skills.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Inspired by a photo of movie star Eddie Redmayne modeling a distinctive, scrappy sweater for a fashion design house, Julia Farwell-Clay became fascinated with how the stitch pattern worked. That fascination led to an article in our pages, and ultimately to this gorgeous shell-bordered wrap design.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
This is the first pattern from A Year of Techniques - a collection of 12 patterns to teach you new knitting skills.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Worked in two colors of Jade Sapphire’s Mongolian Cashmere 4-ply.
Knitting: Hanging Ornament
This pattern is for a felted ball ornament. It can be decorated with duplicate stitch if you like, prior to felting. It takes very little yarn, and is ideal for the bits you have left from special projects.
Knitting: Containers
ed note: Errata is simply clarification on needle size. Should be US15 (10mm) as listed above.

Knitting: Towel
Hand towels are one of the best uses we can think of for Euroflax sportweight linen yarn. Astounding depth of color, wears like iron, and after it’s been washed and dried (or handled), it is very soft.

Knitting: Cardigan
Pattern Notes
Knitting: Cardigan
The Bruton Hoody is knitted in one piece to the armholes, the Fronts and Back are then worked separately to the shoulder. A twisted stitch cable panel goes up the left front to the shoulder. The sleeves are then picked up from the armholes and knitted down to the cuffs, thus minimising the finishing required.
Knitting: Throw
There are many inspirations and emotions flowing into this blanket but let’s face it: it’s a blanket. Its miters get knitted on, one square at a time. It’s a family blanket, meant for long use and many washings, so we used mostly Classic Elite’s sturdy-yet-soft beauty, Liberty Wool. For tactile and visual interest, we mixed in a few skeins of C...
Knitting: Throw
This blanket began with a single modification of the Mitered Crosses Blanket, which combines mitered center patches with log cabin frames. One modification led to another, until it was no longer possible to tell someone how to make this blanket by referring to the Mitered Crosses Blanket pattern.
Knitting: Wreath
With the kind permission of Wendy Baker, Modern Daily Knitting is pleased to offer the Hampstead Wreath as a free download for your holiday merrymaking.
Knitting: Table Runner
Pattern uses three colors of Louet Euroflax Sport Weight.
Knitting: Christmas Stocking
The inspiration for the New Ancestral Christmas Stocking came into Ann’s life many years ago as a tattered photocopy of a mimeograph of a cuneiform stone-incised recipe for an oversized stocking, complete with intarsia image of a lumpy Santa.
Knitting: Rug
There is something rewarding about knitting a long tube of bulky yarn. It’s fast work—a way to dip into stranded knitting in the most forgiving way possible.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
A weightless wrap that uses overlapping layers of a simple lace grid to create a visually interesting plaid effect.
Knitting: Market bag (slouchy)

Pattern description from MDK: “All you need to know when you start out is how to (1) cast on, (2) knit (purling is for show-offs), and (3) bind off. This one-piece baby kimono is an ideal project for a beginner, because in the course of the project, you will learn how to do a make one (M1) or yarn over (yo) increase. This will make you feel lik...
