Knitting: Cowl
This cowl is worked in the round using a beautifully soft double knitting yarn. It features a geometric design inspired by a traditional Japanese pattern called Kikkou, which is based on the hexagonal shapes of a tortoiseshell.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These cosy mitts feature a simple textured pattern, and are sized to fit the average adult hand. The yarn is a soft wool and alpaca blend in an Aran weight, so the mitts knit up quickly and are very warm. They’re ideal for a gift knit, or to wear when the seasons are changing in autumn or spring.
Crochet: Animal Toy
This little bear is designed to use up your scraps of yarn. I designed it after making lots of rainbows during the Covid-19 pandemic, and wanted something to do with the remaining few metres of yarn. This happy little bear looks cute sitting in the window next to the rainbows! My sample is made in 4ply cotton, but you can use any weight of yarn...
Knitting: Scarf
Wicker is a chunky scarf with a textured pattern producing a woven effect. The pattern is created by using rib and seed stitch, making a thick warm fabric which is ideal for keeping you warm all winter!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat is inspired by traditional Scandinavian knits and features a fir tree pattern in simple stranded colourwork. The double thickness of the stranded knitting makes it super warm for even the coldest winter days. The hat has a generous brim in twisted rib, and is topped with a fluffy pompom.
Crochet: Softies - Other
Robbie is super cute and cuddly, and so quick to crochet that you could make him over a weekend as a last-minute gift. The pattern is mostly worked in the amigurumi style, in a spiral without slip stitching or turning chains. Use a stitch marker or scrap yarn to keep track of the first stitch of each round. The body is worked backwards and forw...
Knitting: Messenger Bag
This satchel is knitted in pieces and seamed together. It’s fully lined and has a reinforced handle, and is large enough to carry ring binders or textbooks. The satchel has a crochet trim around the front flap, but you could easily finish it with bias binding instead.
Knitting: Pillow / Cushion
This giant cushion is perfect for snuggling up with on the sofa. It’s knitted in textured moss stitch, and has a button closure at the back so the cover can be removed for washing. The central panel reads “hug me”, but you won’t need much encouragement!
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These mitts are designed to use up small amounts of sock yarn – only 170m, although if you knitted shorter cuffs you could cut this amount even more. I knitted a pair of socks with self-striping yarn, and wanted to design a project that would use up the remains of the ball. This yarn was West Yorkshire Spinners Cocktail yarn, in the Rum Paradis...
Knitting: Mittens, Fingerless Gloves
These cosy mitts have a cheerful snowflake pattern worked in stranded knitting, which adds a double layer of warmth. The mitts are sized to fit an average woman’s hand. There’s also a fingerless glove version included in the pattern. Sizing can be adjusted by using larger needles, or by adding/removing pattern repeats.
Knitting: Cowl
Elizabeth is a cabled cowl, knitted in the round, and inspired by Tudor ruffs. It knits up quickly with chunky yarn, and is perfect for a last minute gift knit. The cowl is sized to fit all the family, and can easily be adapted to whatever size you need.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This simple geometric colour work design is sized to fit the average child, small adult and large adult. It uses three different colours of DK yarn - feel free to experiment with colour schemes!
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This cosy hat will keep you warm all through the winter. It’s knitted in the round to avoid seaming, and has a simple stranded colourwork design. The yarn is soft alpaca, which has a lovely fuzzy halo, and will definitely keep out chilly winds and rain. You could also substitute another 4ply wool or alpaca.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These fingerless gloves are knitted up very quickly in the round. They have long cuffs to keep the wrists warm, and leave the fingers and thumb free to deal with touchscreen phones or dig change out of pockets. The rib is very stretchy, so they should fit a range of adult sizes. The pattern can also be adapted to fit larger or smaller hands, si...
Knitting: Pillow / Cushion
This cushion is designed to be lovely and snuggly to cuddle up with. It’s inspired by traditional British Aran jerseys and cardigans, and the thick yarn and textured patterns make it a tactile treat. However, the design only uses two simple cable stitches to create the pattern, making it the perfect first cable project.
Knitting: Headband
British weather is notoriously unpredictable, and sometimes it can be hard to know what season to dress for. This headband can be worn on cold spring and autumn days, or be added as an extra layer in the depths of winter. The headbands are in all high street shops just now, but this is your chance to make your own individual version!
Knitting: Electronics Cozy
Men are notoriously hard to buy for, and even harder to make presents for, but this Kindle cover should appeal to the fussiest of recipients. Kindles are becoming increasingly popular, especially among those who have to travel to work, and this cover will protect them from the bumps and scrapes that can occur on a daily commute. Knitted in a ha...

This hat is the perfect addition to your winter wardrobe. It only takes a couple of hours to knit, and is super cosy. The chunky yarn knits up quickly and easily on big needles, so you can make a hat as a last minute gift, or knit yourself several in different colours.
Knitting: Cardigan
Sweetheart is a classic raglan cardigan with a cute stranded heart pattern on the body and sleeves. It’s knitted in one piece to the armholes to minimise seaming.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This topknot hat is like a little pumpkin with a stalk, and will fit a baby of around 0-6mths. It’s knitted in the round to avoid any seams on baby’s delicate head. Choose a machine washable yarn for a perfect new baby gift.
Knitting: Mittens
These gauntlets were made to match the Gothic Butterfly Hat. If using the suggested yarn, the hat and mittens together can be made with two balls of Rowan Pure Wool DK and one ball of Felted Tweed.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This hat combines the softness of butterflies knitted in flecked tweed wool, with a hint of dark gothic style. It’s pleated at the top, and is finished with a small bobble and a picot edging. The butterflies can be decorated with beaded detail, or left plain as shown here.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This little hat is perfect for a baby girl. It’s generously sized with a picot brim, and knitted in super soft yarn. Make it in the colours shown here for girly cuteness, or try more vibrant combinations for a different look.

This bag was designed for Fairtrade Fortnight, using an organic cotton yarn which is produced in an ethical and fairly traded way. The bag is a perfectly portable size, yet has plenty of room for all your everyday essentials. It’s fully lined, with reinforced handles and a firm base. A cute little rabbit adds some springtime cheer. Although the...
