Gabbiani socks
I love the wintry walks by the sea, when the waves hit high, the splashes and mist fill the air, the wind blows in my hair and the seagulls scream flying against the wind.
Gabbiani socks are worked toe up with a Fleegle heel. The Gabbiani pattern covers the instep and the front leg. The pattern referring to the bird wings is created by slipping the stitches with yarn in front and later catching those strands to gather them together. German short rows are used to create the heel turn. A Tubular bind off finishes the cuff.
Onde socks
The sea has many faces—sometimes calm and soothing, other times wild and fearsome. Its waves are in constant motion, never the same twice. The color of the sea changes depending on the weather. On a sunny August day when the sun burns, the sea is calm. In January the waves hit the coast with anger, the mist arises from the water and the seagulls scream against the wind.
These fingering weight socks catch the essence of the sea, their flowing cables echoing the ceaseless rise and fall of the waves. Knitting begins at the toe where the delicate twisted stitch cables are established. Mirrored instructions for left and right socks are included. The pattern flows seamlessly to the cuff which is neatly finished with a Sewn Bind off.
Strie socks
I love the first spring walks by the sea, when it’s still too cold for swimming but one can take their shoes off and dip their toes into the cool water. When the sea is calm and the waves flow gently, they create those beautiful lines in the sand underwater. Strie means a thin line or groove on a surface, or a line of a different color than the background. In these socks you can hear the gentle waves of the Mediterranean Sea, and see the lines in the sand under the crystal-clear water.
The socks are knit cuff down. After the twisted ribbing, the delicate twisted-stitch pattern is established. The pattern runs down the heel flap on the back of the heel. The pattern is mirrored for left and right socks.
Ondeggio socks
There’s something soothing about the sea. I love the sound of the waves, and the color that is never the same. Pass a few hours by the sea and you’ve seen it change color and form endless times. Every wave that hits the coast is unique.
These fingering weight socks are knit cuff down with an Eye of the partridge heel flap. Folded cuff, heel and toe are worked using a contrasting color. A delicate sea-inspired lace pattern decorates the front leg and instep.
