Vagaland mitts version 2
Vagaland Mitts
Learn to knit the Shetland way! This fair isle motif is a particular favourite of mine as it features in my one remaining pair of gloves made by my grandmother Jemima (picture of her taken in the 1970’s on the left). Construction of these mitts are made in the same style so the techniques used go back for generations of Shetland knitters. These techniques include a thumb gusset and a folded, patterned cuff so may prove to be a little challenging to a new knitter. The folded cuff maintains pattern and design on the outside but also the benefits of snug ribbing on the inside giving a comfortable and double layer of warmth around the wrist.
This second version of my Vagaland mitts features a new colourway with different palm and thumb gusset patterns. They are designed to be made on their own or worn as a set with Da Kame Hat.
As with all my patterns please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting is quite tight.
