Hjarta mitts
The Hjarta mitts feature a fair isle motif that is commonly used in Shetland for the back of the hand as it fits so neatly on there. Like my previous mitt patterns, I have continued with the double cuff, the outer layer maintaining pattern and design while the concealed ribbing adds snugness and warmth around the wrist.
The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed quite dramatically using larger or smaller needle sizes.
Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting tends to be close.
Any 2 ply jumper weight Shetland wool would be suitable for this project.
Hjarta is a word of Norse origin used as a term of endearment for a sweetheart. It quite literally means “from the heart”.
