Sweet Season Produce Bag
Make your grocery store runs and farmer’s market mornings a little sweeter with the Sweet Season Produce Bag! These reusable cotton bags are the perfect eco-conscious swap for plastic produce bags, and they make every outing feel a bit more intentional and stylish.
The pattern includes instructions for three sizes, so whether you’re picking up a few apples or stocking up on citrus, you’ll have the perfect bag on hand.
With simple stitches and an easy-to-memorize 6-row repeat, you’ll find this project to be relaxing, quick, and satisfying.
How These Bags Are Made
This pattern guides you through crocheting your own set of produce bags, each worked flat in one piece from the bottom up. The design combines a block stitch with airy mesh, forming horizontal lace stripes that are both classic and chic.
Once the body of the bag is complete, you’ll join the sides and bottom with single crochet, then finish it off with a crochet drawstring to keep everything secure.
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.

Super Fine (CYC #1) Weight Yarn/Size 3 Crochet Thread
Size Small: 102 - 112 yards (93 - 102 m)
Size Medium: 157 - 167 yards (144 - 153 m)
Size Large: 234 - 244 yards (214 – 223 m)
The sample shown here was made with an E/4/3.5mm crochet hook and Aunt Lydia’s Fashion 3 Crochet Thread super fine weight 100% mercerized cotton (150 yds/137 m; 1.76 oz/50 g per ball) in the color #201 White. Size small requires 1 ball of this yarn; size medium requires 2 balls; and size large requires 2 balls. However, you should be able to make a set (1 each of all 3 sizes) with 4 balls of this yarn.
Suggested Yarn Substitutes
Feel free to substitute any size 3 mercerized cotton crochet thread for the brand listed above. Lighter or heavier weight yarns may also be used. A different weight yarn may require a different size hook, as well as more or less yarn than noted. Working with a thinner or thicker yarn may result in different gauge measurements, which will affect the Finished Measurements. Crocheting a gauge swatch with your alternative yarn is recommended.
Additional Tools and Materials

Gauge
Though exact gauge is not essential, for best appearance it should be close. Pattern includes instructions for a gauge swatch for your convenience.
I used a E/4/3.5mm crochet hook. Select the hook size that gives the best appearance for your choice of yarn and your tension.
A significantly different gauge may require more or less yarn than listed.
