Prairie Flower Market Bag
Whether you’re heading to the market, the beach, or off on a weekend road trip, the Prairie Flower Market Bag is ready to go wherever summer takes you. With its airy lace, graceful strap shaping, generous size, and timeless style, it’s the perfect warm-weather companion.
To make your experience smooth and enjoyable, the 14-page pattern PDF is packed with helpful resources: a full list of abbreviations, clear instructions for special stitches, a schematic, a linked table of contents, four stitch charts (covering the base, body, top edge, and strap), plus QR codes and links to five video tutorials to guide you through the trickier steps.
How This Bag Is Made
Bag is crocheted from the bottom up, starting with an oval worked in double crochet to create a sturdy base. The body is stitched using a diamond lace pattern before shifting to a shell eyelet pattern on the top edge. Next, the left and right sides of the strap are worked with simple shaping at the beginning and ends of rows. Finally, the two ends of the strap are joined with single crochet and a single crochet edging is added.
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Concentration Level
Some concentration required. Easily memorized stitch patterns and minimal shaping might require some focus and counting.
Stitches Used
Chains, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, double crochet 3 together, shells, and V-stitches.
Techniques Used
Working into both sides of a foundation chain, working in the round, using stitches in place of chains to end a round (half double crochet join), ability to read a crochet stitch chart is not necessary but may help.

Gauge
Gauge is important for this project to ensure that your finished bag will be the desired size.
I used a C/2/2.75mm crochet hook. Select the hook size that gives the best appearance for your choice of yarn and your tension. A significantly different gauge may require more or less yarn than listed.
