This pattern is from Butterick’s 1902 The Art of Knitting, p.89. It was used for a man’s storm hood. The pattern has a 2-stitch repeat + 1 selvage stitch and just 2 pattern rows. It’s useful when you need a small pattern and want a different look. Due to the elongated slip stitch, my tension was not machine-perfect. As a result, the stitches are a bit wild-looking like storm clouds.
The swatch is 3.5 inches wide at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
