The feeling of home, cosiness and a hot drink that you can wrap up in, Meteor Shower was created as a piece to drape around yourself and evoke a feeling of comfort. A light shawl due to the two
yarns carried together to create the fabric, the mohair adds a beautiful halo and elevates the warmth of the finished piece. Designed to show the elegance that can co-exist with a comfortable and luxurious item, Meteor Shower is a modern asymmetrical triangle shawl - one of my favourite easy-to-wear shapes.

This shawl is perfect to snuggle up in and can be dressed up or down throughout autumn and winter. Combining squishy garter stitch and a shower of brioche inserts, this shawl remains interesting to work without becoming overly complex. The brioche showers create visual interest that changes with different ways of styling the shawl, bringing Meteor Shower to life when it is worn. A sideways biased knitting journey, Meteor Shower is enjoyable enough to keep advanced knitters interested, but remains approachable enough for intermediate knitters looking to add brioche to their knitting repertoire.

Pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knitted. Designed in collaboration with Happy-Go-Knitty.

First time trying brioche?
Meteor Shower is suitable for intermediate knitters. The pattern comes with a video tutorial that demonstrates all the main techniques needed for this pattern including all the brioche techniques required as well as the increase used and the bind off. There is also a brioche technique booklet PDF that is provided together with the pattern for reference specifically around the brioche techniques. Still feeling nervous? Two of my test knitters had never brioched before this knit and were able to knit this pattern.

Gauge
Gauge is not crucial for this project, though it will change the final dimensions and yarn usage. Information on how to swatch for this project is included in the pattern support. Gauge is 19 sts and 30 rows = 10cm / 4” in both garter st after blocking in the same manner as the shawl will be blocked.

Needles & notions
4.5mm / US size 7 circular needles or size required to get gauge (60cm / 24” or longer in length). Needles must be circular for brioche.
10 stitch markers
Yarn needle
Optional but recommended: blocking wires

Yarn required
Two strands held together: 1 strand Fingering / 4-ply and 1 strand Laceweight / 2 ply.
Sample in Happy-Go-Knitty Tōkena sock yarn (85% merino-cross, 15% nylon; 400m / 437 yards per 100g) and Happy-Go-Knitty Karoo mohair yarn (72% kid mohair, 28% silk; 420m / 459 yards per 50g).

Yardage
Fingering: 400m each of “Jacaranda” (Colour A, purple) and “West Coast Granite” (Colour B, grey). (Sample used 365m/399 yards of each colour).
Laceweight: 420m each of “Cheshire Cat” (Colour A, purple) and “Pixie Dust” (Colour B, grey). (Sample used 336m/367.5 yards of each colour).

If so desired, a DK / 8-ply could be substituted in place of carrying two yarns together, but would create a different effect in the final shawl. 400m / 437 yards of each colour would be recommended if substituting DK / 8-ply.
