Are knitted pants necessary? NO. Do we care? Also NO! Everyone deserves a cozy pair of leggings to lounge around in when it’s cold out. This pattern is designed for any size and shape of human. They are fully customized to your exact body. You will use a series of measurements entered into a spreadsheet to get a totally customized pattern made just for you.

This design is worked from the top down so you can try them on as you go. Start with a provisional cast on and work in straight to create an elastic casing. When the work measures twice the elastic width, the waistband is encased in the knit fabric by working the provisional stitches together with the working stitches, as for a 3-needle bind off. This method makes seaming unnecessary! Some short rows are then worked to give shaping to the backside. Simple increases form a faux seam along the center of the backside and will guaranteed give you Dat Ass™ (seriously, the shaping on this one is very flattering, especially with stripes). Once the desired length is reached, one leg is put on hold and a few crotch stitches are cast on for the first leg. With simple decreases, the leg is easy to try on as you work down it. If desired, stripes or other yarn designs can be used! A simple twisted ribbing at the bottom keeps the leggings snug. The second leg is picked up at the crotch and worked identical to the first leg.

Sizes: Any size!

Yarn: Any weight! Sample in fingering weight yarn.

Needles: Any size needed to obtain correct gauge (details in pattern).

Gauge: Use whatever gauge is needed to get correct fabric characteristics (details in pattern).

Notions: 3 closed-ring stitch markers (1 of a different color, or distinguishable in some other way), 1 locking stitch marker, a crochet hook (optional, for provisional cast on), 1” - 2”/2.5 – 5 cm wide no-roll elastic (the length of your waist measurement, recommended black for dark colors and white for light colors), 2 sewing pins, 1 sewing needle and thread, spare circular needles of the same or smaller size, waste yarn, tapestry needle, blocking mat (if desired), blocking wires (if desired), and t-pins.

Techniques: Using a spreadsheet (optional but highly recommended), provisional cast on, knitting in the round, basic sewing, 3-needle bind off, short rows, and stretchy bind off.

Please note that this pattern uses an automated spreadsheet to calculate your numbers for you. You can either use the Google Sheets version (online, free to use, best used on a computer or by downloading their free app to your device), an Excel spreadsheet (you must own a paid copy of this program to use), or do the math manually. If you would prefer to use the Excel version, please see the “Automatic Formulae” file for a download link, purchase this pattern via my personal website or email me to request the Excel file. Ravelry doesn’t allow me to upload anything but a pdf to the pattern page so my hands are tied.
