Kalamazoo Ear Muff
This is the quintessential bowed ear warmer. The work is fairly straightforward with a couple little twists to keep the work interesting. Lovely pleating and the picot-rib edging both gives you a lot of visual interest without actually being technically difficult. I think you’ll enjoy this cozy little project!
Sizes: Toddler (Child, Average Adult, Large Adult) to fit an actual head circumference of about 19” (20”, 21”, 22”)/48 (51, 53.5, 56) cm. 3”/7.5 cm of negative ease has been added already!
Yarn: Sock weight (fingering) yarn: 40 yards/meters for the bow and 55 (75, 100, 130) yards/50 (70, 90, 120) meters for the band. I would recommend a solid or subtle variegated yarn for this pattern; striping or crazy variegated yarn causes the picot-edging and bow details to be lost somewhat.
Notions: 2 small stitch holders, a tapestry needle, and a large-sized party balloon.
Techniques: Judy’s Magic Cast On, knitted pleating inline (tutorial given), Kitchener stitch, knitting in the round, stretchy picot bind off (tutorial given), cable cast on, and 3 needle bind-off.
