Hilma Sweater Junior
Knitting Pattern for a Slightly Oversized Sweater in a Colourful Mix of Statement Stripes, a Boxy Fit, Wide Sleeves and a Classic Round Neck with a Double Folded Collar in Sizes 1-2 | 2-3 | 3-4 (4-5 | 5-6 | 7-8) 9-10 | 11-12 | 13-14 Years.
Structure:
The sweater is worked top down in one piece: First, the back part is worked back and forth in rows in stockinette stitch and with statement stripes in 2 different contrast colours. There are a bunch of increases to shape the armholes, then the back part is finished off without any increases. The front is worked afterwards. For the left front part, pick up stitches along the back part, work in stockinette stitch and in statement stripes with increases to shape the round neck and the armholes. Then, finish the left front part in stockinette stitch and in statement stripes without any increases. Then, work the right front part the same way you have worked the left front part before with the only difference, that the statement stripes are placed offset from each other and that the increases for the round neck and the armholes are mirrored. As soon as you have worked the last statement stripe, pick up the stitches of the left front part as well as the back part. Now work the hem for the left and the right front part and the back part in the main colour in 1x1 ribbing with twisted knit stitches. Close the side seams of the sweater and the middle seam on the front part with the mattress stitch.
Then, pick up stitches along the armholes and work the sleeves in two different contrast colours in stockinette stitch in the round. Before working the cuffs in 1x1 ribbing with twisted knit stitches, work in a bunch of decreases for a balloon like shape. Last, but not least, the double folded collar in 1x1 ribbing with twisted knit stitches is added to the round neck. The fit of the sweater is oversized and boxy. The sleeves are relatively wide and the length of the sweater is relatively short. The eye-catching statement stripes pattern creates a cool look leaving room for many creative ways interpreting the design.
Level of difficulty: medium
However, there are YouTube tutorials available for the more challenging techniques required for this pattern. So you might be able to manage knitting this pattern even with less knitting experience than recommended.

Knitting Tension:
10x10 cm = 20 sts x 30 rs with 2 strands of yarn held together in stockinette stitch on 4.5 mm knitting needles (wet blocked)

Bust Circumference Finished Sweater:
62 | 66 | 70 (74 | 78 | 82) 86 | 90 | 94 cm with a positive ease of 10 to 20 cm.
Length Finished Sweater:
35 | 38 | 38 (40 | 40 | 43) 46 | 46 | 48 cm (incl. 2-3 cm hem) – the length can be adapted individually. You then might need more yarn.
Sleeve Length Finished Sweater (from the armpits down):
