Floral Delight
This is the cover project on Simply Knitting 78, April 2011. It is a rectangular shawl knitted from one end to the other in plain and patterned ribs, until 5 of the 7 hanks of main colour are used up. The plain ribs are embroidered later. 2 hanks of the plain colour are used to knit a very long patterned edging which is then seamed all around the shawl.
Yardage: The basic yardage (924m) above is for the shawl without embroidery. The embroidery does not require a full 100g hank for each colour, but the full yardage (1452m) covers this type of purchase if it is necessary. The shawl could be embroidered with scraps from stash.
Required: 7 x 100g of recommended yarn in main colour for the basic shawl and edging; 4 x 100g of recommended yarn in different colours for the embroidery (or scraps from stash); a pair of 6mm needles.
There is no stitch diagram or chart, but there is a small panel explaining how to do the lazy-daisy embroidery.
Comment from Raveller: It’s usually easiest to seam very long edgings of this type onto the main piece as you go. This makes it easier to judge the required length before you cast off the edging.
