Each to Each
Starting with the easy to wear crescent shape, this shawl adds on swooping lace and bountiful beads that come together in an ode to the ocean. The inspiration behind this watery theme is the beautifully dyed sock blank Sea Garden from Gale’s Art.
By keeping the proper balance of lace to solid knitting the fun speckles created by Gale’s unique dying technique have room to show off. The gradient effect stripes in waves further reinforcing the theme.
a note on yardage
I do not know if it is because I knit the sample directly from the sock blank and therefore with kinky yarn, but some knitters are finding that their yardage usage is much different than what I achieved. Please take notice of the note in the sidebar on page 3 that will help you adjust the size of your shawl to match your gauge and yarn usage. Weigh your skein before you begin and then after each repeat of Chart B. You should have a little more than half of your yarn left when starting Chart C, so if it is necessary you can eliminate (or add on) a repeat of Chart B.
The shawl calls for two colors of beads, but of course you can use as many, few, or none as suits your desires. The beads are applied with a crochet hook and the sample uses the following amount of size 6/0 beads:
Color A ~ 275, Color B ~ 740
The pattern is both fully written out and also has charts for the majority of the lace.
If you would like to see a video tour of the shawl you can check it out on my YouTube Channel here.
If you need a tutorial on applying beads with a crochet hook I made a video here.
