Knit with two contrasting colors in a beautiful palate from The Fiber Seed, this hat is a features simple stripes with a fun little stitch to keep things interesting.

I have modified the classic gull stitch by combining it with slip stitch color-work and a little trick that makes the vertical detail in this pattern work. I have decided to call this new variant the Sandpiper stitch. Once you have done one round of the lifted stitch technique you will be an old pro. The crown decrease gets a little fiddly - but the results are well worth it.

I have made an instructional video showing how to work the elements of the stitch if you need a visual aid the Sandpiper stitch on YouTube

The pattern has instructions completely written out as well as a charted option. You will use approximately half of each of the two colors required for this project. Colors shown are Coral and Silver.

Luidia is the genus of starfish in which you find the species Luidia ciliaris, the only starfish with seven arms. I thought that the top of this hat evoked thoughts of starfish or urchins, this combined with the colorway name Coral and the fact that The Fiber Seed is based out of Tampa, FL … well it seemed like a fit!
