Depoe Bay
Depoe (DEE-pō) Bay in Oregon is the world’s smallest navigable harbor. The small city by the same name is also known for whale watching. There’s a resident pod of gray whales that stay year-round. They can be seen from the seawall or the Whale Watching Center. Migrating whales can be seen there twice a year.
This simple pattern is a multiple of 3 stitches + 2 selvage stitches. There are 2 pattern rows and one row is “purl across”. Your unblocked knitting will bias a lot due to stacked decreases but it will block square. I recommend all-natural or almost all-natural yarns to help the blocking process.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, YO, SK2P and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
30 yards of Knit Picks’ CotLin yarn will make 10 inches of a 26-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
