This crescent shawl design combines colour and texture working from garter stitch variations, through slip stitches to lace patterns at the end of the shawl.

The suggested yarns are 4ply/fingering weight hand dyed yarns but the shawl can be knitted in different weights of yarn. If you prefer a larger shawl work the pattern in DK weight yarns. If you want a smaller summer shawl use lace weight yarns instead.

It is not easy to change the size of the shawl by changing the number of pattern repeats in the different sections as a specific number of stitches is needed when you start the last section which is Old Shale Lace. To change the size of the shawl you need to change the thickness of the yarn.

The images show the shawl knitted in 4ply yarns and also DK weight yarns. At the end of the pattern there is detailed information about the yarns used in each of the 3 sample shawls, giving information about what combinations are used in each section as well as approximately how much of each yarn is used.

Another alternative is to use two cake yarns in contrasting colours.
