This cowl has been designed for the Scheepjes Botanical Brioche Make-A-Long, running from February 4-25, 2026! This infinity cowl features alternating bands of brioche and textured vines, creating a fabric that is delightfully squishy — and reversible, too. (The wrong side is shown in the second photo.)

If you’ve been thinking about giving brioche a try, this is an great way to do it: the brioche sections are short, with a simple two-row repeat, and the two colors make it easy to read your knitting. The rest of the cowl is worked in beginner-friendly knits and purls. Plus, the cowl begins and ends in garter stitch for a simple cast on and bind off. The variety of stitches keeps the knitting interesting, making for a fun knit.

Instructions for customizing the cowl’s circumference are included.

Blocked Gauge

17.5 Stitches and 30 rows = 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch using US 6/4 mm needle.

Gauge is not crucial for this project but will affect yardage and finished size if different from above.

Yarn

• Approximately 405 yds/370 m of DK-weight yarn in Color A, or 2 skeins of Scheepjes Woolwise (shown in 749 Cosmic Blue, a dark blue);
• Approximately 99 yds/90 m of DK-weight yarn in Color B, or 1 skein of Scheepjes Woolwise (shown in 706 Birch Bark); AND
• Approximately 99 yds/90 m of DK-weight yarn in Color C, or 1 skein of Scheepjes Woolwise (shown in 743 Frosty Sky, a light blue).

Note: Color B should be significantly lighter or brighter than Color C. For a two-color cowl, use the same color for Colors A and C.

Needles & Notions

• US 6/4 mm circular needle, 36”/90 cm long, or size to obtain gauge
• 1 Stitch marker
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Pins for blocking

If you’d like to substitute Scheepjes Scrumptious yarn, you will need:

• 1 skein of Color A,
• 1 skein of Color B, AND
• 1 skein of Color C.

Note: Color B should be significantly lighter or brighter than Color C. For a two-color cowl, use the same color for Colors A and C; you will need 2 skeins of this color.

All other materials remain the same.

Blocked gauge: 21 Stitches and 40 rows = 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch using US 6/4 mm needle.

If you’d like to substitute Scheepjes Softfun yarn, you will need:

• 3 skeins of Color A,
• 1 skein of Color B, AND
• 1 skein of Color C.

Note: Color B should be significantly lighter or brighter than Color C. For a two-color cowl, use the same color for Colors A and C; you will need 3 skeins of this color.

A US 4/3.5 mm circular needle, 36”/90 cm long is recommended. All other materials remain the same.

Blocked Gauge: 22 Stitches and 44 rows = 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch using US 4/3.5 mm needle.
