Alice the Easter Bilby
** Currently in Testing! **
Growing up in Australia, we celebrated Easter not with bunnies but bilbies!
They’re such sweet little creatures found only in Australia, but for many years they have unfortunately been very close to extinction.
There is some amazing conservation work going on, however, and the future of the greater bilby is looking hopeful – including places such as Alice Springs.
This pattern is mainly worked in continuous rounds, unless otherwise stated, so you will need to use st markers to help you keep track of your st count. You’ll be working the body from the bottom up and then crocheting the arms, head, tail and ears separately.
Photo guides and links to videos throughout will also help you to visualise the different techniques used and clarify what you’ll be doing at each stage.
I used Hobbii Yarn’s Friends Cotton Silk for my bilby, basket and Easter eggs. You can, of course, use any other DK weight yarn for this pattern, but I highly recommend this lovely yarn for its softness and unique texture. You can grab some for yourself via this link.
When complete, your bilby should measure about 8” (21cm) in height, depending on your chosen yarn, how tightly you crochet and how you position the ears.
