Australia’s first breed of sheep, the Polwarth, has a long proud history stretching back over 180 years, with the original family (the Dennis Family) toughing it out, to this day, on the original farm in Southwest Victorian. Meanwhile, just down the road, Nick and Isabel Renters, have sought to revive part of Australia’s proud manufacturing tradition by building and running a “mini” mill, processing fibre into yarn.

Geography has brought these two families together, but it is their love for Australian fibre, Australia’s history of growing on the sheep’s back and the faith that Australia can, and does, produce some of the best fibre and yarns in the world that has seen these two families work together to create this exciting new yarn.

This spirit of co-operation and collaboration has created “The Henry”. A beautiful blend of old meets new, named after the ship that set sail all of those years ago to bring the foundation flock for the Polwarth to Victoria. This new yarn shows what can be done when processor and farmer join forces. Hopefully it inspires a new generation of knitters to pick up the needles, and to ask where is that yarn grown, where is that yarn made. Few yarns can name their processor, yet alone the farms from which the fibre came from, “The Henry” can.

A yarn with heart, a yarn with a history and a yarn that shows the way forward through co-operation and collaboration.
