The fiber in this yarn comes from the Pronsolino Ranch in Mendocino County, California. The Pronsolinos originally emigrated from Italy, and have homesteaded their ranch since 1901. Angelo is the eldest son, has lived on the ranch his entire life, and at the age of 89, still tends his sheep. Corriedales are one of the oldest crossbreeds, the descendants of a Merino and a Lincoln. They were developed in Australia to be a good dual-purpose breed, meaning they grow a fine fleece as well as provide good meat.

The yarn is spun by Ranch of the Oaks, a small mill that uses biodegradable soap and mechanical methods to clean and card the fiber. It’s spun semi-worsted from a carded prep, so it’s lofty and nice to work with, yet the Corriedale fiber is sturdy and a good workhorse. It will wear nicely, and won’t pill as much as merino. The yarn is a true single, unplied yarn. It’s very lofty and airy, and slightly thick and thin. It knits up soft and flexible, with great texture. It also felts wonderfully.
