When designing Rime’s the Reason for Knitty I fell in love
with the cable stitch pattern. This trio of designs feature
adaptations of the original Rime Cable for smaller projects.
First, there is a set of fingerless mitts which use my
Phalangee finger opening technique (see Knitty Deep Fall
2012). The Phalangee technique creates finger openings
with just a set up row, a connecting row and an unusual
bind off!!
Next, there is slouchy hat in two sizes. For a comfortably
snug fit the hat begins with a smaller version of the Rime
Cable and then transitions into a larger version of stitch
pattern. The crown shaping is incorporated naturally into
cable design and is worked over the final 10 rows creating
a stunning starburst.
The final pattern for this collection is a graceful circular
cowl which comes in two sizes. The smaller version is
sized to be worn as a simple tube at the neck. The larger
version can be twisted and doubled (or tripled) to create
artfully draped layers.
Both written and charted formats are provided. A larger
needle is used for the hat and the cowl than for the mitts
creating a less dense fabric for easy draping. The design
features Knit Picks’ sumptuously soft Capretta which is a
luscious pleasure to both knit with and wear.
