TWEED . A River of Colours A collection of knitting & crochet patterns with Tweed yarns by the Erika Knight Yarn Collection Designs by Fabienne Gassmann, Rebekka Mauser, Hélène Taboury & Gloria Wille
Nothing says Britain like a Tweed suit, don’t you think? Most often the term refers to the fabric rather than the yarn. In handknitting though it’s the name for yarn that is spun with diff erently coloured neps in it which makes it particularly special. Tweed yarns make colourful and durable knits. A traditional story has the name coming about almost by chance. In the 19th, century a London merchant misinterpreted the handwriting from a factory at the River Tweed about some “tweels” (a fabric woven in a twill pattern), understanding it to be a trade-name. The goods were subsequently advertised as Tweed and the name has remained since. At Erika Knight Yarn Collection we off er two marvelous Tweed yarns that are presented in this pattern collection: Pure Tweed and Gossypium Cotton Tweed. While Pure Tweed brings you the joy of a classic rustic Aran weight Tweed yarn, Gossy Tweed (as we lovingly call it) translates the characteristics of a Tweed yarn into cotton. The patterns (both knitting and crochet!) are designed by four talented knitwear designers from Europe. They took inspiration from (botanical) gardens and plants. I hope you’ll enjoy the patterns from the Tweed Collection.
