Coast: a Celebration of Sea and Sky
These shawls come from a time when I craved the peace of the ocean, the soothing sounds of the waves and the wide expanse of sky that reaches out to embrace you as you gaze out to sea.
I find the coast a mesmerising place. With winds blowing the scent of salty air clearing the mind and vistas wide enough to let your thoughts wander, there is a sense of comfort in the meeting of land, sea and sky.
Knitting brings me solace and calm when it is most needed. The gentle clicking of the needles, the strands of yarn flowing between my fingers; it soothes me as the wide expanse of ocean does.
Pwani (meaning coast in Swahili) and Wingu (meaning cloud in Swahili) are a celebration of sea and sky which combine beautiful shapes and simple stitches to create a wearable timeless shawl. Both shawls are soothing to knit; each stitch a gentle appreciation of the time I spent looking out to sea. The wide crescent shapes reach out and embrace you, wrapping your shoulders in glorious fibre keep the chills at bay.
I hope you find joy in knitting these gentle shawls and that each stitch brings a sense of calm and tranquillity ….
