With this design, I wanted to play with juxtaposing horizontal and vertical stitch patterns, as is often done in shirtdresses made in striped fabrics. The two zig-zag patterns I chose are nearly identical, with the horizontal version being half the height of the vertical one. I placed the horizontal pattern in the center front and back, with vertical zig-zags on the sides and sleeves. Instead of mirroring the zig-zag patterns around the side seams, I designed them to flow continuously from back to front. The V-neck mirrors the horizontal zig-zag pattern that it intersects. I chose a dark-colored yarn for the upcoming winter, knowing that these stitch patterns would show up well in dark colors. This pattern provides a great opportunity to create a visually interesting piece in a yarn that may not display conventional stitch patterns well.
