When my son needed an outfit for his Anglo Saxons and Vikings history day at school, I took inspiration from the Skjoldehamn costume, a well-preserved outfit from the Early Middle Ages, found in marshy land in Northern Norway.
As I sewed the hood pieces together, I realised that it would be a wonderful garment to make use of large crocheted squares and thought how warm and comforting it would feel.
The Once Upon a Make-along Medieval fairytale event, seemed the perfect opportunity to revive that idea and create a block with floral features, making a hood that’s ideal to keep a woodland fairy princess warm as she travels through her tale to our time.
