Named for the Avalon of Arthurian legend, Ynys Afallach - Isle of Apple Trees is worked top-down from a small cast-on. The triangular body of the shawl is created from your chosen combination of two lace-patterns, and leads into a wide crescent border with optional edgings. Each of the main lace charts may be repeated as you choose, thus the shawl is fully adaptable in size.

Suitable for any yarn, from cobweb to fingering weight, that knits with good stitch-definition. The complete design requires about 575m/630yds upwards; a small shawl with a simple edging could be made with less yarn, however, down to about 375m/415yds.

Please note that the pattern is given as charts only, with little written explanation. It should present no difficulties to knitters with experience of working lace and the ability to read their stitches, but is not really suitable for beginners.
