Yakushima
If you purchase 5 of my self-published designs at the same time (they need to be in the same cart), you will get the least expensive for free!
Yakushima is a seamless textured cardigan knit from the top down. The design uses the contiguous method of shaping set-in sleeves developed by Susie M.
I love fitted garments, nice waist shaping and a lovely scoop neck, but this time I decided to step out of my comfort zone and make my own version of so-called grandpa’s cardigan, with a relaxed fit, very minimal waist shaping (which you can easily adjust, of course, if you wish to) and pockets. I hope you enjoy making it too!
Sizes: XS (S, M) L, XL, XXL;
Finished chest measurements: 83 (90, 97)106, 117, 128 cm / 33.25 (36, 38.75)42.5, 46.75, 51.25 inches.
The cardigan is intended to be worn with about 5 cm/2” of positive ease.
Sample shown in size M on 93 cm/37” inch bust.
Yarn
7 (8, 8) 9, 11, 12 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed SHELTER (100% American wool; 50g/140 yards). Sample shown in colorway 02 Tent.
Needles
4.5 mm/US #7 circular needle (60 cm/24” long) and dpns.
4 mm/US#6 circular needle (60 cm/24” long) or 2 dpns, or 1 size smaller than gauge needles.
3.75 mm/US #5 circular needle (60 cm/24” long) and dpns, or 2 sizes smaller than gauge needles.
Other
6 (6, 7) 7, 8, 8 buttons (about 1.25 cm/0.5” in diameter), 4 interlocking stitch markers, 6 markers in different color (markers B), tapestry needle for weaving, stitch holders/scrap yarn.
Gauge
18 sts and 26 rows over 10 cm/4” in St st worked flat with the largest needles (AFTER WASHING).
Take time to save time, check your gauge. If necessary, adjust needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
