The Xavier socks were created for quarter 3 (Toes) of the Head 2 Toe with Kino and Jo knitalong (KAL), a year-long event with Kino Knits and Jesie Ostermiller. Throughout 2022, knit a pattern in specific categories by either designer for the chance to win prizes! I channeled my inner Professor X with these socks…let me explain. Professor Charles Xavier is a powerful telepath from the Marvel universe. In the 90’s there was an animated series in which he sat in a cool, yellow hover chair and used his awesome telepathic powers. Likewise, I sat in my comfiest chair and used my powerful mutant abilities to discover that people might want shorty socks that were quick, satisfying & perfect for stash busting. You’re welcome!

Note: if using mini skeins (92 yds, 20 g) the smallest size is the only one that will use a mini skein for each color. The other sizes will need 2 mini skeins per color.

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Notes

  • These socks begin with the cuff and are worked top down with a heel flap and gusset. Extra length can be added to the leg, if desired, by working more repeats of the colorwork chart before starting the heel flap.

  • This design uses 3 colors, making the possibilities for color substitution easy and endless. It’s also perfectly suited for stash busting (i.e. each stripe could be a different color)!
