Trees, plants and mushrooms share information and resources via vast underground networks of mycelia. Amazing! Ever more evidence indicates how much we are connected. One creature to another. We’re all in this together.

Construction: WoodWideWeb is knitted in the round from the bottom up. Steeks are created at armholes and front neckline so that in-the-round knitting can continue. Neckline ribbing is picked up and knitted later. So are sleeves, which are also worked in the round from the top down.

I knitted my sample using Sunday Knits woolen-spun yarns for the main color and one of the contrast colors, and using Spincycle’s beautiful color-shifting yarns for the other contrast colors. I love how these two very different yarns connect here. You could also knit WoodWideWeb in all Sunday Knits yarns (and we’ve put together a great kit for doing just that), or substitute any light sport-weight woolen yarn that works nicely to gauge.

Sweater sizes:
1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8)“.
Finished sweater measures, at chest:
37 (43, 48, 53, 59) (64, 69, 75)”. Wear with recommended ease of 8-12”. Shown in size 3, worn with 12” ease (the model’s bust measures 36”).

Techniques used: Alternate cable cast- on, stranded knitting, steeks, pick up and knit, Italian sewn bind-off.

Needles & Notions: Size 5 US (3.75 mm) circular needles (circs) for gauge and main sweater; size 4 US (3.5 mm) circs for ribbing.

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch using size 5 needles.

Yarn used in my sample: Sunday Knits 3 ply (sport weight) yarn in Nirvana (merino & cashmere): Charcoal (main color): 820 (900, 990, 1080, 1170) (1280, 1380, 1510) yds;
and Eden (100% merino) artisan dyed: Graphite 110 (120, 130, 140, 140) (150, 150, 160) yds;

and Spincycle Dyed In The Wool (superwash wool):
Devilish Grin 80 (90, 100, 110, 120) (130, 140, 150) yds;
and Spincycle Nocturne (nonsuperwash):
All Nighter 60 (70, 80, 90, 90) (100, 100, 110) yds,
Witching Hour 150 (160, 180, 190, 210) (220, 240, 260) yds,
Cold Snap 80 (90, 90, 100, 110) (120, 130, 140) yds.
