Wishing Rock
What’s a wishing rock? It’s a smooth stone, often found on rocky beaches and shorelines, that has a single, unbroken band of white around it. Find one, make a wish, and throw it into the water. While I wouldn’t recommend throwing your shawl into the ocean, how about stitching your wishes into its stripes, then popping it into a nice bubbly blocking bath instead?
The Wishing Rock shawl is knit using three colours and is worked side to side. By using increases and decreases, you will create a large diamond shape which is, once complete, folded in half to create a warm and drapey shawl. In the sample I’ve used three colours, but this is also a great pattern for using mini skeins or scraps of fingering weight yarn. It’s a great canvas to get creative! The added tassels are optional, but help the shawl stay in place, and who doesn’t love a good tassel?
