Wings Are Freedom. I’ve always wanted to be able to fly. Freedom. A superpower to go anywhere. I took up running for a short while but I think I would prefer wings. Wings are pretty and dainty and strong and powerful.

I designed this to be made with worsted weight yarn but I believe the size is still usable if you use a DK weight instead. Yardage estimates assume worsted weight is used.

Instructions to attach simple mesh pockets top the inside of the shawl are included

After purchasing this listing you will have:

• written instructions for interlocking crochet starting at the LONG bottom edge,
• and starting from the short SIDE,
• multi-page charts for each direction,
• single page charts for each direction (preferred for screen reading),
• written instructions for the single-row / cut-and-tie / overlay mosaic technique starting at the LONG bottom edge,
• and starting from the short SIDE.

The file is over 80 pages long, so consider only printing the parts you need.

Choose to start from the LONG bottom or short SIDE based on how you want the colors to stripe if you have color changes in your yarn.

Interlocking crochet uses only chain spaces and double crochets to create a mesh; the “wrong” side is sometimes as pretty as the front.

Mosaic crochet uses single crochet and double crochet stitches. The double crochet stitches cover some of the other color’s single crochet stitches to create the design. My patterns instruct you to cut your yarn at the end of each row. The back is striped but often gives a faint impression of the pattern on the front (sort of like illusion knitting). Navy blue and white sample was crocheted by Kimberly. Blue was used as the Main Color (MC). She chose to leave my initials out of the center space - this change is not hard to do, but is not included in the pattern instructions.

Cream and purple sample was crocheted by Carmen. She used the SIDE start pattern to get the dark/light color changes. She used cream as the MC.

• Main Color (MC) – 975 yards plus 40 yards for optional SC border
• Accent Color (AC) – 975 yards plus 70 yards for optional pockets

• Gauge: 16 stitches x 8 rows in one color = 4” square

For Mosaic Crochet, You Will Need

• Worsted Weight Yarn (2370 yards)
• Main Color (MC) – 1150 yards
• Coordinating Color (CC) – 1150 yards plus 70 yards for optional pockets
• Crochet hook: 4.5 mm (US7)
• Scissors
• Gauge: 16 stitches x 16 rows = 4” square
