Knitting Whirlwind? Come join the Winterlong KAL in the Blue Bee Knits group!
Dramatic cables and a field of textures combine for a strong, yet incredibly wearable statement. Knit flat with self-finished edges and joined neatly with a three needle bind off, this cowl is essentially reversible. Perfect for a quick gift, Whirlwind knits up in a flash, and is ideal for using a skein or two of luxury DK or worsted weight yarn!
Finished measurements
Approximately 30" [76 cm] in circumference,
and 9" [23 cm] wide
Yarn
Plucky Knitter Scholar,
75% merino, 25% cashmere, 250 yd [229 m] per 115g skein,
shown in Indian Summer and Stone Cold
2 skeins; or approximately 305 yds [279 m] DK to worsted weight yarn
Needles
US 8 [5 mm] circs or straights
Gauge
20 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in seeded rib with main needles, after washing and blocking
Construction The cowl is begun from a provisional cast-on, and worked flat lengthwise. After blocking, the provisional cast on is undone, and the ends are joined using a three-needle bind off.
About gauge For this design, it is not essential to achieve the pattern’s recommended stitch gauge, especially if you are substituting yarn. Swatch with your yarn to find a gauge that creates a drapey fabric with enough stitch definition to hold the texture of the seeded rib.
