The inspiration for Veila came from gradient yarns that transition from a pale, almost white hue to rich saturated shades of the same color. The original handspun yarn I used for the Ply magazine design was spun in soft gray shades, which reminded me of cool mornings in the mountains when the hills are veiled in ribbons of fluffy fog. Later, when I found the beautiful teal gradient by Vice, I knew that it would be a perfect substitution for the handspun yarn because just like in the original handspun, the colors in this gradient transition seamlessly from pale to dark.

To make the most of the gorgeous colors and allow them to play the lead role, I used only simple stitches to bring the inspiration to life. Worked from the top down, the set of easy garter stitch short rows forms a versatile elongated crescent shape, which can be worn as a scarf or shawl. The background of garter and stockinette stitches creates the foundation for interesting textured lace created with multiple yarn overs.
