Valkyrie
by Kate Poe
In Norse mythology, the Valkyries are the handmaidens of Odin who escort dead heroes to Valhalla. In every depiction, the Valkyries always have long braids.
This sock was inspired by those braids and includes 4 loosely braided cables. The cable pattern continues down the heel flap and the top of the foot. Two of the braids begin after the cuff, the other 2 begin further along the leg. If desired, all four braids may begin right after the cuff.
A note on gauge: the gauge given was measured over the stockinette portion of the foot. The cables themselves were knitted slightly looser. The 10 stitches of the cable measure 1 inch, unstretched.
