Tweetie Bird
This sweet little Tweetie Bird makes a wonderful decoration for a new born babies cot, a beautiful toy for a small child, or a quirky, lavender scented gift for a loved one.
Whether a decoration, toy, or gift, Tweetie is quick and easy to make and requires as little as 1 x 115m (125 yd)/25 g ball of yarn and a small amount of 2 contrast coloured yarns, to complete. Knitted on straight needles, both the front and back of the bird’s body are each worked flat in stocking stitch, following a chart and sewn together. The beak and tail are knitted flat and sewn to the body, the legs are I-cord, the heart motif is worked using the intarsia method, and simple embroidery stitches are used as decoration and to make the eyes. This particular Tweetie Bird is knitted in a 4ply (Super Fine, Fingering), 100% wool; 525 m (574 yd), 150 g (5¼oz) yarn, but any weight of yarn can be used with these instructions — just make sure that you follow the suggested tension on the ball band.
You could make a group of Tweetie Birds and hang them as a mobile or just make one in a very special yarn and use a silk ribbon as a hanger.
