I’ve been dreaming of this cowl for years, and, while working on another project, I suddenly decided how I wanted to execute it. I dropped what I was doing, and not even 24 hours later, this sweet little cowl was finished and drying on my blocking mats. This light but cozy bandana cowl is designed for five 20g mini skeins, but of course would work great for leftovers, too! I used OOAK mini skeins I dyed for my first sample. It was supposed to be just proof of concept, but I LOVE how it turned out! Suitable for any level knitter, True Story is truly easy and quick to knit, but is so impactful to wear or gift! With fingering weight held double, the color possibilities are endless!
This wonderfully squishy bandana cowl is worked seamlessly from the bottom point up, stitches are cast on and it’s joined and finished in the round.
This pattern is written for five fingering weight mini skeins held double throughout, but will also work for one skein of DK weight yarn, or DK leftovers held single (note, yardage will vary). Other yarn mods include: using one fingering weight full skein held throughout and 5 contrasting mini skeins, 50g DK skeins/leftovers, two full fingering weight skeins, one fingering skein held double, or fingering or sport held with a floofy yarn like mohair brushed cashmere, or suri.
Garter stitch will stretch and relax a bit with blocking. I HIGHLY recommend soaking, squeezing as much water out as possible, reshaping with arms, and just placing flat to dry without pinning or stretching the piece. This will help retain the soft, drapey squish we‘re going for.
