Triangular Shawl in Crosshatch Stitch

When I was a student in France for my junior year of college, my French boyfriend’s grandmother showed me a crochet stitch that created a triangular shawl, starting at the bottom point. She made many warm shawls out of worsted weight yarn that hung casually on a hook by the back door. I don’t think this is the stitch she used, but she might have liked this too.
