Triangles Two Ways
I set out to design a very simple triangular shawl and decided to offer the shawl from wide cast on to point and from point to wide cast off. I have kept the stitch pattern(s) fairly simple but for more advanced knitters you can combine the three stitch patterns to make the shawl your own. the stitch patterns all work well as reversible farbics.
The Wide to Point Shawl was knitted in two colours of the Louisa Harding Pittura sock yarn. It starts with a long cast on and the shawl is decreased at one edge to reduce to a point. It is edged with garter stitch but the main body pattern is Hurdle Rib. The shawl can be knitted as shown, in just garter stitch, in Expanded Moss Stitch (English Moss Stitch) or a combination of all 3 stitches.
The Point to Wide Shawl was knitted in Rico Creative Cotton Degrade Print. It starts at the point and increases along one edge until it is the maximum width you desire. The increase edge is worked as a yarn over 3 stitches in from the edge. To give the straight edge the same look a decrease and yarn over are worked 3 stitches in from the opposite edge.
This shawl has been knitted in a combination of garter stitch, Hurdle Rib and Expanded Moss Stitch but could be knitted in just one of these stitches throughout. Garter stitch edges are used around the shawl.
