The Needs:

Yarn:

• Color A: Woolfolk Tov DK TDK14, 100% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino, (160yd/50g per skein), 3 (4, 4, 5, 5) (6, 6, 6, 7) (7, 7, 8, 8) skeins
• Color B: Woolfolk Tov DK TDK09, 100% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino, (160yd/50g per skein), 1 (1, 1, 1, 1) (1, 1, 1, 1) (1, 1, 2, 2) skeins.

Needles:

• US 5 (3.75mm) circular needle. (one 32-40” and one 16”)(one 81-101cm and one 40cm).
• US 7 (4.5mm) circular needle. (one 32-40” and one 16”)(one 81-101cm and one 40cm).

Notions:

• 10 stitch markers.
• A row/round counter/marker.
• A darning needle.

Gauge:

• 16 stitches and 27 rounds per 4”, or 4 stitches and 6.75 rounds per 1” in blocked stockinette with larger needles.
• Designed with ~3” positive ease

The Backstory:

I wanted a t-shirt that I could just throw on like it was anything else in my wardrobe. Does that make it plain? Maybe. Does it make it necessary? Definitely.

A T-shirt is a staple. Enough said? Lol No but really, this design is one I’ll likely be coming back to for another sample in the future. Neckline adaptations and waist, hip, and arm shaping options are noted.

I developed the neckline by mixing a yoked neckline and a raglan neckline to make it universally wearable and gradable for all sizes. One night after it was finished and while I was grading this idea, the name “The Hybrid” came to mind. The next day I went to search on Ravelry to see what other patterns had that name, and while I didn’t find any specifically with the title, I ran across an Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern using the hybrid construction. Aka I discovered for myself something someone we all admire as knitters discovered years before, and while I’ve never read a Zimmerman pattern, it’s clear her influence runs that deep in the consciousness of all knitwear designers, which is all I tap into with my designs. And “Cry Wolf” by Friendly Fires has been on repeat in my headphones since its release last year, and it’s getting me through the times!

The multiple names come from my years as an Adelphi student writing cabaret sketches that always had an “or” in the title, made university-wide famous by Jonathan Larson of “Rent” fame.
