I grew up in Fresno, so I know intensely hot it must be to operate dye pots in those conditions. The economy in some parts of town was struggling even when I moved away for college back in the mid-80’s. I love supporting local-to-California companies, especially from my home town; and mostly I really love supporting Anzula. The story of what they are doing to help their employees to earn a living wage is an important one, and something not every small company can do (certainly not a goal of many). I’m a fan of Anzula, and thought that a literal fan would be a humorous relief from the heat, while supporting their fundraising campaign to put in air conditioning.
In researching the use of fan bases, I saw that many people order them for special occasions, but have a decorative print put on them. The Fulton Fan (named for the historic Fulton Mall in Fresno) is a knitted, lacy cover to decorate a simple paddle fan; worked in the round like a toe-up sock, slipped over the fan, and sewn between the reeds. It uses Judy’s Magic Cast On and lace; and is a very quick project.
Until the end of the Indiegogo campaign it is only available in a kit (paddle fan, yarn, and pattern) as a perk. After Oct 21st, the pattern will be available for purchase.
