The Dutch or Square Heel on a CSM
The Dutch or Square Heel
During 2020 I started working on a sock knitting machine project, in which I explored ways to adapt all of the hand knitting sock heels I could find, to knitting them on the csm. This tutorial is the first of many to follow and I hope it will be useful and fun for you to knit.
The Tutorial will guide you, step by step, with notes and photographs, on how to knit a Dutch or Square heel on your sock knitting machine, working cuff down.
It covers the math needed for all cylinder sizes from a 48 slot, up to a 120 slot cylinder, and a formula, for making easy adjustments.
You will need to be proficient in the use of your sock knitting machine, as the tutorial doesn’t teach you how to use a sock machine. I would grade this as an intermediate difficulty level. That being said, I expect an adventurous beginner who has already comfortably knitted plain socks and is patient, will be able to knit this heel.
I have tried very hard to ensure there are no errors, but if you do find one, please kindly message me on Ravelry.
Happy cranking! ♥
