Hey Garden Friends! Guess what gorgeousness just dropped for our May project? It’s the Dahlia Doily Bouquet!
Get ready to crochet TWELVE stunning little dahlias that you can gather into a beautiful 3D bouquet or lay flat as a textured doily! It’s like two gorgeous projects in one!
Fun Fact Alert! Did you know some dahlia varieties can have blooms as big as dinner plates?! While ours will be a bit more delicate, they’ll pack a punch of handmade beauty!
Here’s some more fun facts:
A Touch of Dutch Heritage: The Apple Blossom dahlia was hybridized in Holland in 1986, showcasing the Dutch expertise in creating stunning floral varieties.
Collarette Cutie: The Apple Blossom dahlia is classified as a “collarette” type. This means it has a distinctive look with a central disc surrounded by a collar of smaller petals and then an outer ring of larger petals, resembling a miniature anemone or, in this case, perhaps a delicate apple blossom.
Pastel Perfection: Its blooms are typically a beautiful blend of soft, pastel colors, often featuring creamy white or pale yellow with delicate washes or streaks of blush pink, truly reminiscent of apple blossoms in springtime.
Pollinator Paradise: The open center of the collarette dahlias, like Apple Blossom, makes them particularly attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies, as the pollen is easily accessible. So, it’s not just pretty, it’s also beneficial for your garden ecosystem!
Not a Super-Long Vase Life: While gorgeous, Apple Blossom dahlias are sometimes noted as having a slightly shorter vase life compared to some other dahlia varieties. But our crochet dahlias will last a lifetime!
Fluctuating Beauty: The exact shades and patterns of pink and yellow can sometimes vary on the Apple Blossom blooms, adding a touch of unique charm to each flower. You might see more blush one day and more buttercream the next!
