The Basset Hat
The Basset Hat is a simplified classic take on the American pilot/trapper hat and the Russian ushanka. It is knitted top-down, in 1x1 rib.
You start by knitting a small square and then you pick up stitches along the sides of the square, so you can continue knitting in the round. Afterwards the hat is divided into sections and the front flap is knitted first followed by the back of the head and lastly the earflaps. The folded edge trim is knitted in stockinette. At last, you can choose between knitting a button chinstrap, or two cords using the i-cord method.
