Terrain Mitts
Welcome to the coziest of seasons! If you’re considering these mitts as your next cast on, thank you!
Terrain Mitts are my homage to 2 things I really love: the changing landscape of moving through seasons, and the wonder that is woolly fiber for keeping our hands cozy.
This pattern includes:
- Written and charted instructions for mosaic knitting
- Full Color Photo Tutorial and pro tips throughout
The mitts are knitted from the bottom up with a ribbed cuff, thumb, and top edge. The main body of each mitt features a three-color mosaic motif. The thumb opening is created by knitting the mosaic motif flat, and the ribbed thumb is made with stitches picked up from around the opening. The finished mitts include 0.25 in (0.5 cm) of negative ease for all sizes.
I recommend a natural yarn, including those with a bit of halo to fill in the spaces and make a smooth, squishy fabric.

The pattern is provided in four sizes, but if you wish to make further adjustments you can easily add or remove a multiple of four stitches to give a smaller or larger hand circumference.
In gratitude for joining my design journey, thank you, Friends for Making along with me!
I originally designed the Terrain Mitts in partnership with my friend Jen Arnall-Culliford of AC Knitwear. They were featured in the Confident Knitting book, and were aimed at encouraging Makers to enjoy colorwork without having to carry more than one color per round or row.
I can highly recommend the whole Confident Knitting e-book.
