Tea for you and me
Two warm winter beanie hats – “For Her” and “For Him” (for couples, for best friends, brother and sister…). Many ideas have been packed into a small project like a hat. Some of my inspirations were traditional Fair Isle fisherman hat and the song “Tea for two”. St Valentine’s Day and the ability to combine complementary 2 color knitting techniques were used as motive. For these prototypes I used budget-friendly yarn and red-blue stereotype, but they can be made in any color combination and I’d love to see them made from some Shetland yarn. Each of them requires good knitting skills and concentration (my projects aren’t for relaxation ), but the result is an interesting relief textures, striking graphic and beautiful (at least for me) snowflake-crowns. Except for crowns, everything else is different and each hat has its own pattern. For double knitted brims I gave charts and wrote patterns (in English); for brioche parts you have written patterns, photo & video tutorials. These hats are made in the round, from the bottom up.
You need:
1. Intermediate 2 color brioche and double knitting knowledge; knitting in the round;
2. Needles:
* 16” (40cm) circular needle in US 4/3,5mm; for man’s hat you can also use US 5-6/3,75mm-4mm;
* US 4/3,5mm DPN’s (4+1 double pointed needles) – or the same thickness like main needle;
* cable needle;
* tapestry needle for weaving in ends;
3. Yarn: for each beanie - 2 balls (1 light, 1 dark) DK weight woolen yarn, not thinner then
100g/280 (~307 yds), in favorite color combination:
* shown beanie “For Her” – normal women size (L/XL) is made with approx. 2x40gr Alize
superlana klasik (280m,~ 307yds/100gr) woolen yarn, beige and maroon color;
* shown beanie “For Him” – normal man size (L/XL) is made with approx. 2x45gr Alize
superlana klasik, beige and denim blue color;
4. Stitch markers – 12 pcs, 6 in color 1 and 6 in color 2;
5. Furry or woolen pompom(s).
SIZE – each hat has one size only – fabric is elastic enough:
beanie “For Her” - depth – 22cm/8.8”; circumference – 48cm/19.2”
beanie “For Him” – depth – 23cm/9.2”; circumference – 48cm/19.2”(needle 3.5mm)
(1”=2.5cm)
Gauge (3.5mm needles): in fixed brioche stitches: 20-21 sts/25 rows = 4”x4” = 10x10cm (1 row consists of 1 row of MC and 1 row of CC yarn)
