The Tasselated Cardigan is a lightweight layer that you can wear indoors or out, with classic styling that you will be able to wear for years. This is a piece that you will reach for over and over, and love the compliments that you receive.
The cardigan is worked from cuff to cuff. The pattern takes you through the construction with detailed explanations and diagrams every step of the way.
The sweater is fastened at the neck with just two buttons, which allows it to fall gently open, making it flattering on many body shapes and sizes. The pattern includes 9 sizes, with finished bust from 30 - 62”/75 - 155 cm.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4)(5, 6, 7)(8, 9)
to fit bust size 30 (34, 38, 42)(46, 50, 54)(58, 62)“/ 75 (85, 95, 105)(115, 125, 135)(145, 155) cm with approximately 6”/ 15 cm ease.
Note that the sweater buttons are only at the top, which allows the cardigan to fall loosely across the bust. This, rather than the knitted dimensions, are what creates the ease.
Techniques: knit, purl, kfb, pfb, k2tog, p2tog, ssk, ssp, making tassels. A detailed photo tutorial shows you how to make and attach the tassels.
Yarn: DK weight yarn, approximately 350 (375, 400, 425)(450, 475, 525)(575, 625) grams.
The sample was worked with a cotton/ acrylic blend (Cascade Yarns Sarasota). This yarn is fairly budget-friendly.
This pattern would be successful with a wide range of fibers, including wool and wool-blend yarns, acrylic, cotton and cotton blends. It will work well with a standard texture yarn, but is also a good fit for textured yarns like tweeds and even bouclé. The simple structure will look classic with a solid or tonal, but also means that you can step out with variegated or speckled yarns, even those with bright or high-contrast colors.
Gauge: 16 sts and 20 rows to 4”/ 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
Needles: US 10/ 6.0 mm or size to obtain gauge, plus one size smaller if you like your sleeve cuffs tighter. This sweater is worked flat and can be worked using straight needles but some of the longer sections may be more comfortable using a circular needle of 32”/ 80 cm or longer. You will also need a crochet hook approximately size J (US 10/ 6.0 mm) for the tassels. Precise sizing of the crochet hook is not necessary.
Questions as you go?: Designer email is included in the pattern.
