Description
This modular blanket design is inspired by the traditional tangram puzzle, reimagined through knitting. You will work each square tile in garter stitch intarsia, where color changes create clean geometric shapes.

Provided are written and charted instructions to knit all 8 variations of the tangram square, each a rotation or reflection. By reflecting and rotating the tangram motif, you can combine the tiles into countless arrangements to create a one-of-a-kind blanket! I’ve also provided some tools to support personal design preferences.

Each square is knit “bottom up,” and measures 10” by 10”. Knit as many as you need for your desired blanket size, seam them all together, then finish with a simple garter stitch border for a clean and cozy finish.

Skill Level
Intermediate. You should be comfortable with garter stitch, intarsia color changes, mattress stitch, and picking up stitches.

Gauge
Garter st on US size 7 needles: approx. 19 sts and 38 rows = 4” after gentle stretch-blocking.

Note: Choose a needle size that helps you achieve your desired fabric. Prior to blocking, your row gauge will be a bit short. As long as you like the fabric, the gauge prior to stretch-blocking doesn’t matter too much as long as your squares are equivalent prior to seaming.
